Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathy Baird and Lisa Paul-Hill.
Kathy and Lisa, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
We met in early 2000 through our husbands and immediately bonded over our shared interests in dogs, fashion, fitness, and volunteering in our community. In 2015, both having left corporate careers, but not ones to sit idle, we decided a business venture would make great sense combining our passion, expertise and work ethic. Knowing we would eventually re-enter Corporate America, we needed a business model that gave us flexibility to do both. Taking our love of fashion and tireless ability to power shop, we launched TRENDSonthego Boutique in February 2016.
Our mobile store was an instant success with friends and family who enjoyed the convenience of shopping in their own homes not to mention the affordability and on-trend selection. Our mission statement: Style & Convenience Delivered to You!
Through our local charitable involvement, we were able to introduce the boutique at several fundraising events supporting charities like Make-A-Wish® San Diego and Susan G. Komen® San Diego. Our involvement and support have continued to grow and will always be part of our business model.
While originally envisioned solely as a rolling boutique, we were quickly inundated with requests for an online option which led to the KaLi Trends launch in February 2019.
(PS – Why the name KaLi Trends? It’s easier to type than www.trendsonthegoboutique.com. Seriously, Kathy…Lisa…California. Get it? We knew you would).
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As most business owners know, there are several challenges to owning a business especially with only two employees, ourselves.
As planned, we both returned to full-time careers outside of the boutique but remain dedicated to delivering outstanding service and selections. We continue to book private, public and charitable events and completely manage all aspects of the business from curating the selections, processing the inventory and managing the website and social media channels. This is definitely a labor of love.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about KaLi Trends Boutique – what should we know?
KaLi Trends is an online and mobile boutique specializing in afforable women’s on-trend fashion and accessories. Our clothing is a curated selection of women’s and young contemporary brands with sizes ranging from XS – XL as supplied by the manufacturer. From the weekend to the work week, we have must-have styles that won’t break the bank.
As two San Diego natives, we are most proud of building a business that gives back to our community through charitable fundraising events and living up to our mission of delivering Style & Convenience to today’s busy women. We take this mission to heart and have been known to deliver to our client’s doorstep when the mail is just not fast enough for that last-minute occasion. All that and our prices truly set us apart.
