Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Malone.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Katie. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
I know it’s cliche to say, but I would never have imagined that this would be my story. Originally from Connecticut, I made my way to California in 2013 in pursuit of something different – something greater – a life that was better than I could have imagined. In 2013 I was living in Baltimore, single and unsatisfied with the nightlife and an unfulfilling job. When the opportunity presented itself to move to California, I never looked back!
I had maybe heard about Reiki once or twice in the past but had never really taken the time to learn what it was really about, until my first roommate here in San Diego happened to be a Reiki Master and Medium (Melanie Esperon of Reiki Room San Diego), and she took clients right in our home! Immediately I was hooked on learning more and would beg my roommate for readings and Reiki as often as possible. Little did I know this would change my path forever.
I also never felt the pull to become trained as a Reiki Practitioner right away, but a few years later I met Shawna Schenk (Yoga With Shawna/ San Diego Yoga Festival) and signed up for her Reiki level one training. At the time I was working a stressful marketing agency job, and the anxiety was really starting to get to me so I decided to find out what this medicine could do for me. Around the same time I distinctly remember, asking the Universe to bring me “change”– and it delivered!
Two weeks after completing my Reiki One training I found out I was pregnant with my son Carter. I continued on with my training with Shawna throughout my pregnancy and after, and it was such an amazing experience to give and receive Reiki to and from my own child in my womb. And what a GIFT to learn while pregnant and at my most intuitive! I owe my smooth, happy pregnancy to the gift of Reiki, and felt incredibly blessed to have had this tool to help me through the stresses of new motherhood.
In the first few months postpartum I struggled with some severe postpartum anxiety, and I leaned on my knowledge of the Chakras and energy centers to help me find balance and heal. Once the fog lifted and I started meeting other new moms, I knew that this wasn’t something I could keep to myself and needed to share. Thus Moonstone Momma was born!
We’d love to hear more about your business.
As a Reiki Healer, I am part of a small group of healers known as Instinct Reiki who collectively work with clients of all ages, stages and genders in San Diego and Salt Lake City.
For those that have never hear of Reiki, pronounced ray-key, it is a form of alternative medicine and a natural healing system. It is a powerful modality in which the chakras are cleared and rebalanced. Reiki can be used to heal all aspects of life: physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. The energy of Reiki flows through the body to help restore its overall balance and enhance one’s own self-healing ability.
Moonstone Momma was born out of my calling to specifically help women at any part in their motherhood experience, but especially postpartum. I currently work one-on-one with Reiki Energy Healing clients in the healing space at Nature’s Whisper here in San Diego or as an Energy Healer/Postpartum Doula hybrid role for newly postpartum women in their home providing them with physical, emotional, spiritual and energetic support.
I also run various classes and workshops throughout the year focused on understanding the seven major Chakras, and how they are related to the motherhood experience. In the coming months, I also plan to launch a website of the same nature with articles and resources designed to empower women, and especially mothers, to learn how to self-heal.
My goal is that the Moonstone Momma brand becomes synonymous with healthy, happy motherhood and becomes an integral piece of the “moms supporting moms” community online and in real life.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes, absolutely! Here, spirituality and healing are considered mainstream, and the community is super supportive of entrepreneurs. Not to mention, if you are a mom who wants to start a business that serves other moms, there are dozens of amazing networking groups in San Diego for you to begin connecting with women.
The one thing this city does need is more flexible options for childcare that support working moms/parents. The YMCA is a great resource and almost fills the gap, but not 100%. My dream (and the dream of many other working moms in this city) is for a co-working space that is affordable, super flexible and has great childcare. So far, nothing exists here that checks all those boxes.
