Hi Katie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a Licensed Esthetician and Owner of Mind Body Soul And Skin. I studied Psychology at SDSU but felt lost in my career path for years after graduating. I pursued a career in esthetics about four years ago after serendipitously finding a front desk job at a boutique spa in Solana Beach. I walked in for an interview with few expectations and left feeling like I had found my calling. It felt like a light switch went on in my head. I had always loved beauty but never considered a job as an esthetician. I signed up for esthetics school the next day and worked at that spa for the following three years. A year ago, I branched off on my own and created Mind Body Soul and Skin.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I have hit a few bumps in the road, particularly dealing with the closures from COVID and it’s deep effects on the beauty industry. I was laid off a few months after COVID began in 2020, but I didn’t let this get me down. It actually turned out to be a blessing in disguise because while we were all in quarantine, I was able to plan ahead and build the foundation of my business. I don’t think I would have taken that leap of faith without the circumstances that arose. I opened my studio in September 2020, which was quickly followed by another mandatory shut down. Fortunately, the owners of Sola Salons in San Diego did not charge rent during the closures, and I was able to keep an optimistic outlook, ready to come back stronger than before. The thing I am most proud of is taking the risk to branch out on my own and making a successful business during trying times.

Mind Body Soul and Skin is a holistic beauty spa that specializes in the artistry of brow shaping and lamination, lash lifts, advanced skincare and wellness integrated techniques for the most relaxing and effective facial treatments. I learned how to do brows from one of the best in the business, Alexis K Ayala. I quickly fell in love with doing brows and love the impact they can make on someone’s face. I began doing Brow Lamination at the beginning of 2020 and have done several trainings to perfect my technique.
I really love to incorporate the relaxation of a traditional spa, combined with medi-spa tools and techniques (like dermaplaning) to create the perfect facial. I also offer Reiki energy healing, which creates a unique facial experience that I feel very passionate about. I emphasize the mind-body connection and try to incorporate this into each one of my services. Whether it’s a brow massage at the end of the brow wax, the smell of essential oils diffusing, or a few deep breaths before your facial, I like to make each service feel like the perfect “me” time for each client.
I am most proud of the clientele that I have because they are truly amazing people. I consider many of them friends and making them feel beautiful is the greatest gift. I believe they are a reflection of the energy that I have put into my business, and it’s very rewarding to have such a strong connection with them.
What matters most to you?
Following your heart and your intuition. I lived many years suppressing my feelings and not listening to my gut, which made things hard. Finding that connection to myself and trusting that I am on the right path has been the best feeling. I’ve learned to approach life from a place of love and understanding; changing that perspective truly changed my life. It has allowed my relationships and career to flourish because everything became aligned with my soul’s purpose.
