Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Collins.
Kelly, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My journey into the wellness world began as a child. I have always passionate about physical movement and was a gymnast, soccer player and cheerleader from a young age. My cheer coach in high school was a personal trainer and got me a job selling personal training during my first summer break from San Diego State. Shortly thereafter, at the age of 19, I became a spin instructor and personal trainer. After completing my degree in Kinesiology, I continued personal training and teaching group fitness at a gym until two years later when I left to start my own in-home personal training business.
In 2015 I went to Bali and did my 200-hour yoga teacher training. This turned out to be a completely life-changing experience and made me realize how important it is for us all to focus on rebalancing the mind-body-spirit.
After that experience, I threw myself into my yoga practice and teaching yoga. My mission changed from helping people to get physically fit to helping people discover mindfulness practices and to improve their lives on a physical, mental, and energetic level.
In 2016 I started a yoga and adventure retreat company which I ran for two years until it felt as though it was no longer aligned with where I needed to go. At that point, I decided to rebrand my original business to become Kelly Collins Wellness. Since then, I continue to teach yoga, lead retreats and events and work one-on-one with clients to improve their mental, physical, emotional, and energetic health through strength training, yoga, meditation, breathwork, and diet. In September 2019 I also started my podcast Woke Wellness with Kelly Collins! This has given me an incredible platform for spreading my message and helping people to approach wellness from an ethical, intentional, and individualized mindset so that they can live a happier, healthier life while changing the world.
Has it been a smooth road?
Not at all. When I look back on my business I can pinpoint 3 big pivots, all which have felt terrifying at the time but I am so grateful that I trusted my intuition and went through with them. Every time I have had to pivot or to let a part of my business go, it was because I was no longer happy and I truly believe that if we allow our joy to lead the way, that we will always be heading in the right direction. They were all challenging but all essential to my growth and I am so happy with where I am today.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
My business consists of three different parts. 1. I am a yoga and wellness teacher, 2. I lead international and local wellness retreats and events, and 3. I have my growing online business which includes my podcast, online programs, website, and YouTube channel.
The message with each part of my business is consistent – to help people rebalance their mind-body-spirit through their own unique and intentional wellness path and to do this consciously so that we can also help to better the world.
I am so proud of my message because it truly is a compilation of all of my life and business experiences and is authentic to who I am. I know that with every class, every session, every event, every podcast episode that I am sharing a message from my soul which is a message that someone, somewhere needed to hear.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
San Diego is one of the best places you can be if you want to start a business in the wellness space! People here are so open to trying things that will better their health, so I would recommend coming here if you are just starting!
