Today we’d like to introduce you to Keri Caldwell.
Keri, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I moved to San Diego almost four years ago. I was in the most pain of my life dealing with a crippling addiction to alcohol. I found myself in a 30 day rehab in January 2016. I then continued my sobriety journey in an institution called the Soledad House. A woman’s rehabilitation center. I’ve been a hairstylist for 18 years and took the year off to recover and discover healing and transformation. A year and a half into my journey I transferred my license over to California and started looking to advance my career here in San Diego( there’s a lot of blood sweat and tears in between this time) but in a nutshell, I am now four years sober as of January 7, 2020 and I’m thriving at Diesel Salon in Kensington. My story is one of hope.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. I’ve experienced pain but also perseverance. I’ve moved seven times in three years I’ve overcome major triggers. My living situations in my first year out of my sober living were not conducive to my new lifestyle and I had to make hard decisions to leave toxic situations frequently. It was most definitely a roller coaster. I was so proud and excited to become a part of a new Salon in A prominent part of San Diego after I transferred my license and come to find out I had joined a failing company. Normally this would have set me back but I made the hard decision after a year to leave and keep pushing to find my forever salon. I have been unemployed and gone from house to house to make money. It’s been rough but it’s shown me what I’ve made of.
Please tell us about your work.
I work for a salon called Diesel Salon. I am a master level 5 stylist that specializes in color and blonding. I pride myself in special client relations and I’ve been an educator. I love what I do. Check me out on IG @kcstudiossd I’m most proud of my continued professional consistency and client retention. I am so grateful for the success I have risen to in my new salon home in a short period of time. I’ve hustled and used the tools I have acquired to make huge strides. I’m super proud of that.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Honestly, I wouldn’t have done anything differently or I wouldn’t be where I am today. If I wouldn’t have failed so magnificently I wouldn’t be in the position I’m in today. Clean and sober four years killing it emotionally mentally professionally and spiritually.
