Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Retoriano.
Hi Kevin, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I joined San Diego Personal Injury Attorneys while in my first year of law school. I was introduced to the owner, Deon Goldschmidt, through my stepbrother – Robert Simon (Justice Team) – at a happy hour event that Robert was throwing. Deon was the most outgoing and personable attorney that was there.
I reached out to Deon for the following 4-6 weeks calling and texting him to see if there was anything I could do to help his firm – even for free just to learn. Deon was very busy at the time and kept telling me to call back the next week and check in. I was persistent and kept calling and texting. Finally, Deon invited me to go see a potential client with him. I drove him in his car to the appointment and from that day on I became his driver and somewhat assistant while learning everything about being a business owner and lawyer. I am eternally grateful for the opportunity Deon gave me back then and thankfully we have grown and succeeded together since then.
We now have 7 offices in 4 different states. We focus mostly on car accidents but also handle a fair amount of dangerous condition and slip & fall cases. I handle my entire pre-litigation and litigation caseload in San Diego with the amazing team we have put together. I really couldn’t do it without my whole team at San Diego Personal Injury Attorneys. In the midst of doing that work, Deon and I also spend a fair amount of time managing and coaching the attorneys in our other offices.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
As they say, success is not linear. It certainly has not been smooth but with time comes wisdom and what I have learned is I have way more smooth patches that rough patches. Managing doing legal work and helping run a business wasn’t easy. Luckily, Deon has been doing it for nearly 3 decades and I have been able to lessen that learning curve with his help.

We focus mostly on car accidents but also handle a fair amount of dangerous condition and slip & fall cases. I would say the thing I am most proud of has everything to do with how we communicate with clients. Some people say we are crazy for doing so, but every client gets their attorneys cell phone number. We constantly communicate with clients with updates and they have our numbers in case they ever need to text or call with a question. I believe that is what makes clients feel comfortable with us and why we continue to get referrals from clients.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Be yourself and do anything you can to help whatever firm or business you are working for. Learning what happens at every stage of the business/case/lawsuit it vitally important.
