Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Goar.
Kim, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I had my first job at 16 and worked in various industries through college and into adulthood. I did everything from making pizzas as a teen to waitressing to working in high stakes insurance and oncology corporations. But once I had kids, my vision of climbing the corporate ladder all but disappeared.
Working long hours with a long commute made it very hard on me as a mom. Both emotionally and physically. I was missing so much with my kids and my husband and the stress was sometimes more than I could handle. It was a never ending cycle of wake up early, drop kids off, work all day, pick them up and take them to their activities, home for dinner then bath and bed. Only to wake up the next day and do it all over again. We were exhausted, drained and I’d had enough.
And that’s when the idea of working for myself, through a direct sales company came about. I loved the idea of being able to work when I wanted, around my kids’ schedules and STILL contribute to my family financially. Now instead of spending my entire day working on building someone else’s dream (away from my family), I can build mine…all while being present in my kids’ daily lives.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road to success certainly wasn’t smooth, but how many are? I originally began my direct sales career with a different company. I believed in the products but the opportunity to make an income just wasn’t there. It wasn’t until I found Monat that I truly saw success and was able to make a full time income.
And of course, working in direct sales isn’t always easy. People immediately think it’s a scam; there is a stigma to it. But this isn’t your mother’s direct sales company! It’s more what we call social selling. I essentially use social media as a platform where my customers find me. I am not out hounding my friends and family and bugging people to order my products or join my team!
Online commerce is huge right now. People love to shop online. Amazon, Instagram, Offer Up…you name it, people are shopping online right now! And the fact that my entire business is online makes it easy for me to work into my life. I can work from my home office, or the pick-up line at school, or waiting for one of my kids’ sports practices to be over. Anywhere you have the internet!
