Meet Kimberly Nelson of Shore Crest Family Counseling

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Nelson.

Hi Kimberly, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I did my undergrad at USC and graduate at Fuller in Los Angeles in Marriage and Family Therapy. Then I moved with my husband to the Seattle area where I worked for family mental health agency. After 7 years we moved to San Diego County. After have boy girl twins I stayed home with them the first 6 yrs of their lives and then worked for a group for 19 years. I’m 2017 I left the grp and started my private practice Kimberly Nelson Counseling in Carlsbad village. In 2023 I started Shore Crest Counseling and hired associates. I now have 3 associates and my therapy dog Honey who has been doing cotherapy with me for years . We recently expanded to a second suite with my colleagues Linda Stewart from Collaborative Therapy and Rebecca Dennison from Coastline Counseling group.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been amazing expanding with my friends and colleagues. Having their support and encouraging each other has made it worthwhile. There have been struggles with scaling and learning to be more of a CEO and learning various aspects of running a business. I’m focusing on mindset and putting systems in place to continue growing.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Shore Crest Counseling we specialize in helping individuals, couples, teens, kids and families process trauma. We provide EMDR therapy, pet assisted therapy, CBT, family systems, therapy for life transitions and grief and loss. We also provide Christian therapy, poly vagal safe and sound. We are passionate about helping clients thrive. We often walk with clients above the beach or in Carlsbad village and with our furry therapy dogs.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory is when our family went on a family trip to Hawaii.Ir was my mom dad my 2 older sisters and myself. I made a flower lei, learned to hula and ate lots of McDonalds because we had coupons for hamburgers and we’re trying to find ways to save money .I remember going to the seven sacred pools. I was afraid to go on the natural waterslides but with the encouragement of my family I conquered my fear. It was a memorable trip.
