Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Wulff.
Kimberly, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started my journey as Cosmetology ten years ago. I started like everyone else climbing the hills and mountains. When I was in beauty school, I knew I had a passion for hair and color right away. I absolutely fell in love. I had many skills to hon into and needed training once I hit the floor. Timing is huge and takes a while to strengthen.
For the 3 1/2 years, I had worked at a handful of places moving as I was growing. I had finally went into booth rent (independent contractor) for myself at 3 1/2 years in. I was nervous to make the jump coming off of commission. With many people supporting me, my husband being the main one, and my loyal clients, everything came together beautifully. I was about 4 1/2 years into it when I realized that I needed to fuel my passion. I rented a small booth with another stylist and needed more stimulation in order to keep my passion alive. I started the process of becoming an educator for Schwarzkopf Professional. This was a long hard process and again many mountains to climb. The best decision I ever made for myself… I am in education constantly, basically living and breathing hair.
I blessed to be able to teach other stylists, and have found that teaching has become another passion of mine. To be able to see the light come on with a student is one of the best gifts I can ever receive. Not just for them, but I learn from them also. Truly is a two-way street. I am also a member of the Toastmasters club 47 speech and communication. I found them to be incredibly supportive and teaching me the art of communication. You may wonder how this all ties in, however, they all go hand in hand with each other. I will always move forward and open to grow and learn. I have also learned to not be afraid to fail or fall as that is part of the process. The biggest thing I have learned is to learn to be comfortable with the uncomfortable. That means I am growing.
Has it been a smooth road?
Many hard roads. Sometimes it takes a while to find your nitch and your home.
Please tell us more about your work. What do you do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from competition?
I rent a booth inside a salon. However, I am independent. I do specialize in color transformations. I absolutely love to transform people. I do many services on men and women. What sets me apart from everyone else is that my reward is getting a huge hug from my clients when they see themselves in the mirror after the service. Truly is amazing when they come in, so I tried from life and when I am done, I get to make someone feel so beautiful for a moment in time.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Love Encinitas. Everyone is trying to make the world a better place. Like-minded people.
