Meet Koko Hayashi of Mirai Clinical

Today we’d like to introduce you to Koko Hayashi.

Hi Koko, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?

When I was living with my grandmother in Japan, I was very close to her. As a young kid, I appreciated her for playing with me, studying with me, and teaching me general life lessons. One day some friends of mine visited my home, and they noticed she has a different kind of body odor, which I didn’t notice. She was embarrassed and bathed more, but couldn’t remove the odor. Years later, Shiseido, the Japanese cosmetics company, discovered that body odor changes with age, and the cause of the body odor associated with aging is nonenal.

In Japan, where I grew up, there are many solutions for this type of odor, but I noticed that there was none in the USA. That’s why I decided to introduce a solution to the States.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?

As a foreign entrepreneur who is of a minority and female, things are not easy. I moved to the US to work with another team member in California, but he passed away suddenly after I got the flight ticket. I had to recruit a new member by myself. At that time, I didn’t know the questions you could or could not ask in the US, because hiring procedures are different in Japan. I cried for the first couple of years I moved to the US, and regretted quitting my corporate job in Tokyo.

Thankfully I found entrepreneur communities to learn from and that help each other. That’s when I finally felt like I was not alone. I didn’t know that such communities existed, as entrepreneurship is not as active in Japan as it is in the US.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

We offer deodorizing products for mature adults who are concerned about body odor associated with aging. Our products range from body, to hair to home care. The key ingredient to eliminate this type of odor is persimmon fruit. Our partner lab formulates persimmons to produce a maximum deodorant, which is used in all of our products. Our hero product is persimmon soap bars.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
We want to support seniors and give them a better quality of life by providing these solutions. It is sometimes thought that we are offending people by saying body odor changes with age, but it is based on science. So, it is our mission to educate the public. Our brand is not commonly known to the public yet, so education and brand awareness are important for us
