Meet Kristen Rud of Mermaid Movement in North county/Temecula/online

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristen Rud.

Kristen , please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
The Mermaid Movement began as an online platform for women to connect and gain support. I was craving a sisterhood that felt safe and welcoming. I made a Facebook post asking who would be interested in a group like that, 40 women responded, and the rest was history! Shortly thereafter, I created Mermaid Movement Yoga. This yoga dance fusion class was to promote self-love, body movement, and meditation all in one. I offered local classes every Friday for over three years and built a community in the Temecula area. We now have a culture that includes yoga classes, moon circles, community meet ups, retreats, and many other healing modalities.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have learned sooooo much about myself and the world while building this community. It has definitely had its ups and downs. I would say the biggest thing I’ve learned is SURRENDER. The plans that we create in our head are truly nowhere near as magical as the adventures we discover when we surrender to the natural cycles. The biggest struggle has been to remember that. I’d also say the most important part of the whole journey is being open to learning about yourself throughout the process of building your community or your dreams. It’s truly all about the process.

Please tell us about Mermaid Movement.
Our intention with the Mermaid Movement is to create a community that feels like home. We promote acceptance of all as they are, and also support for healing and growth of individuals and the collective. We are an ever-evolving community- always coming up with new and creative ways to serve. Our offerings come in the form of online classes, workshops, yoga and meditation practices, reiki and intuitive energy healing, immersive retreat experiences, and extensive programs that take you on a journey of self-discovery and healing. I think one of the most unique things about this movement is our inclusivity and our desire for everyone to truly flourish in their gifts. We really are a unity here.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My childhood was really beautiful and joyful. There are so many positive experiences and memories. I would probably say some of my most vivid memories come from summer trips across the country in our motorhome. We got to see so much, and even though I didn’t fully understand what a blessing that was back then- I am so grateful for that experience. My husband and I actually live full time in our RV now, and I think that definitely set me up for success now.
