Meet Kristin Byrne of San Diego

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristin Byrne

Hi Kristin, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve been dabbling around with photography for as long as I can remember. I’ve always been drawn to the artistic capability of creating something for someone else to love! I went to college with the intention of minoring in photography, but lo & behold that didn’t quite happen and sadly I didn’t pick up my camera again for another several years. It wasn’t until I hired a photographer for a fun photoshoot for my husband and I that I remembered how much I loved making art in the form of photography and went full force into my photography career and developing my own business out of it. I couldn’t be more honored than to be where I am today! Never in a million years did I think I would be taking pictures and traveling the world to take photos of others, capturing wedding and elopements, and nearly everything I can! Ten year old me would be entirely flabbergasted that the silly photos she used to take in her yard would be making a career out of it.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As most artists -of any medium- would tell you, it’s hardly ever a smooth road when it comes to creating art. Especially with how tech savvy today is, though it’s great for getting art out there, there can also be a lot of hang up when it comes feelings of inadequacy and imposter syndrome. Some clients do get hung up on followers and how many likes your pictures get, etc., but there’s so much more to it than those things and it can be hard to express that to others who aren’t in the business of creating art. However, with that being said, I’m so unbelievably blessed that I even have the opportunity to have made a business for myself creating something I love.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a travel photographer specializing in weddings and elopements and some of my closet friends have dubbed me as “the queen of sun flares”. I adore warmth and the sun in my art and one of my all time favorite ways to capture this is by using the sun and my clients to create a glowy, warm, hazy feeling to my photos. I take a lot of inspiration from film and along with digital photography I also shoot 35mm film and 120mm film. I also have taken an appreciation to super 8 and creating nostalgic film videos for my clients to have and love for a lifetime. I truly believe that though there have been so many advancements in the digital age of photography, that film will truly never cease to exist and there will be people out there wanting it for the rest of time. My whole approach to my work is to create warm, filmy, and timeless pictures that will withstand the test of time, that my clients can appreciate for forever.

Any big plans?
As happy as I am to be where I am now, I unfortunately don’t do photography full time. The ultimate goal is to be able to create whenever and wherever and to fully make a career out of photography. However, the main goal will always remain the same – to create art for others to love.
