Meet Krysta Randall

Today we’d like to introduce you to Krysta Randall.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I have always doodled and used to love playing around with charcoal, but it wasn’t until a couple of years ago that I fell in love with paint. I went from working two jobs, sixty hours a week, to not being able to do much of anything, awaiting what would turn into two back surgeries. After a couple of months of being out of work on leave, I felt like I had no purpose (I know, super emo). I became fascinated with paint and discovering ways to basically layer black and white on top of each other and not make gray. I definitely made a lot of gray in the beginning but the more I played to get the best consistencies the more fascinated I became at how different brands and types of paints interact with each other when being poured on a canvas. It is almost like controlled chaos. I started to paint, a lot, it was so therapeutic. I had found a new purpose. It sounds so cheesy but painting saved me. I was shocked and flattered when I was offered to show them in a studio for the first time last year. This was the first time I had ever even seen my work hanging on a wall, my mind was blown. Everyday, I continue to be so grateful to the amount of love and support people have shown me throughout this journey.

Please tell us about your art.
My artwork would mainly be described as abstract, fluid acrylic on canvas; however, you will find quite a bit of mixed media including resin finishes. My favorite part about sharing my paintings with people is to listen to what they see in the painting or the vibe they get from it. I did this piece on the day my grandfather passed away and I titled it, “Tree of Life”. The family that purchased the piece told me they had a wall with framed photos of family members that had passed away and they were looking for something to put in the middle to tie everything together. They had no idea that I had painted this in remembrance of my Papa and I knew this piece had made its way into the perfect home.

What do you think is the biggest challenge facing artists today?
I think that common challenges are always going to be time and money. I have found that for myself, especially with commissions, I find that I am much harder on myself than if I were to just paint what I feel when I feel it.
