Today we’d like to introduce you to Kylie Matson.
Hi Kylie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Well, I was studying interior design at Sacramento State University and was slowly developing severe acne vulgaris. I panicked and started scrubbing, burning, and picking at my breakouts. I was going on and off birth control multiple times and antibiotics to mend it. I was severely depressed. It was an incredibly dark time. Nothing was working until I said, “no more” and withdrew from college to spend a Summer researching all that I could about this disorder. For the record interior design bored me to tears so I was happy to leave haha!
That same Summer my mom came to me with a magazine featuring an esthetician by the name of Emme Diane. It featured her story as an esthetician. I had NEVER heard of an esthetician. My mom and I looked at each other and without saying anything we just knew this is what I should do.
I enrolled at Federico Beauty Institute the next semester and graduated number 1 in the class with honors. It was hilariously cute. Never ever did I see myself doing this line of work but my gosh can I not see myself doing anything else.
I worked for a couple establishments before starting Skin Klarity in September of 2021. Around this time I got heavily into nutrition and peer reviewed journals. Studies were coming out that the esthetic industry wasn’t discussing and so I tested them on myself.
Each one paid off; gut integrity, increase fat soluble vitamins, cortisol management, minerals, healing and managing your PTSD/mental disorders, and not messing with your skin’s barrier too much. My skin was in a decent place before these findings but after integrating? Oh my. Worth every minute I spent on research.
I simply want women and men to know that these dictate your skin’s health more than any skincare product can. Products DO help but they are not the priority. Your body first NEEDS nutrition, love, and safety for healing acne.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all but the clients always make it worth it. I was dealing with a great amount of childhood trauma whilst starting Skin Klarity. It affected my self esteem in ways I didn’t realize. It takes a lot of confidence to put yourself out there, a lot.
As you know, we’re big fans of Skin Klarity. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
If you kept up with the products, advice, and cure-alls you’d lose your mind. It’s all too much when it should NOT be. I’m overwhelmed just as much as you are. Please take care of yourself first before your skin.
I specialize in acne, dermal scarring, but I’m also skilled in pigmentation/aging concerns.
I’m most known for telling clients to back off a bit, simplify, breathe… Our skin can only handle so much exfoliation, regeneration, and absorption. Our skin’s barrier is delicate and we have got to be more mindful of all that we force upon it.
I offer an incredibly affordable first time visit price so you can get a feel for my nature and ethics.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Oh my gosh! Too many to account for. Sometimes it was my office landlords that’d make me cry from their generosity. Clients who leave reviews- that always kills me. As of recent, my best friend Austin Smith who works for Urban Coast Properties has held my hand through this entire transition of moving from Roseville to San Diego. We’ve known each other since we were 18 and developed a strong familial relationship over the past 10+ years. I wouldn’t even be typing this if it wasn’t for him!
