Today we’d like to introduce you to Lalo Venegas
Hi Lalo, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have been musically inclined my entire life. Ever since a young age I could effortlessly harmonize with any rhythm. At the age of seven, I learned to play the recorder. And two years later, I learned to play the clarinet. Despite having this musical inclination, I did not pursue my passion of songwriting until my junior year of high school. At the age of 15, I began to work closely with a friend of mine who is a producer. He took me under his wing and he helped me create multiple songs.
In addition, he showed me the basics of producing as well as how to release my original music on major platforms. Through the years I have worked with multiple rappers as well as multiple producers in an effort to continue creating art. I am still very much considered an underground artist; however, I have amassed more than 45k streams on Spotify and 30k streams on Soundcloud. Today, I am consistently dropping tracks, I am constantly working with more and more artists, and I am doing the best I can to promote the music.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I can say with clarity that it has not been a smooth road. I have encountered many obstacles along the way. The largest obstacles I have had to encounter have been emotional obstacles. In the past few years I have had to endure some less than pleasant situations. I witnessed my grandmother suffer her affliction for multiple years and in 2019 she passed away. My grandmother was very much a mother to me and I can say with confidence that part of me died with her on the day that she passed. Another struggle for me was lack of motivation. A constant voice in my head telling me to not pursue my dream. It was those nights in my room where I decided not to record a song because I was feeling tired. It was those days at school where I would be writing lyrics but never do anything with them because I felt like they were not good enough. I must also mention the doubters. There was no shortage of people telling me to give up on my dream because in their words, “You dream too big” or “That is too hard”. Some even went so far as to vandalize my house. Finally, the last obstacle would be love. I know I am only 19, but love has always been hard for me. It has been a constant loop of trying to open myself up to love but having my heart smashed and discarded like a rotten fruit. Love is a fleeting spirit that I can never catch up to. It is a withered rose in an oasis of nothingness.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a vocalist that deals in many genres, more specifically: Rap, Trap, Latin, and Rock. I freestyle and write all of my songs. I specialize in writing songs for many moods including aggressive rock, melodic rap, and even emo trap. I am known most notably for eccentric music that differs from the industry norm. For me, combining genres that I love is something incredible. I am most proud of my evolution as an artist. I have come a long way since the beginning of my journey. Music is by far my favorite art form and just to have the blessing to be able to create a song for the world to hear is moving.
What are your plans for the future?
My plans for the future are very ambitious. I plan on moving to Los Angeles in a few years so that I may be fully emerged into the music scene. Until then, I hope to be able to become more known in San Diego. I want to do concerts on a regular basis when everything goes back to normal. I am planning on dropping a short EP within the next month.
