Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Efron.
Hi Lauren, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
It all began after I transferred schools in the 10th grade. I begin taking a business one oh one class and fell in love. We had a project where we had to create small businesses and try to pursue them. Due to COVID-19, we were not able to pursue this project at school. However, I was still inspired. I had designed a business plan with good margins, so I decided to pursue it. I began my own business, Custom Gel Press Ons, and I began advertising on social media, handing out business cards at malls, etc. I got an influx of orders from across the country, from Hawaii to New Jersey to Florida. Not only was I shocked, I was incredibly proud. My business continued to grow. People began asking if my press ons were acrylics or if I knew how to do acrylics, I always had to say no. I had always wanted to learn acrylic however. So I began practicing. I started on myself and have now grown to family and friends. I watched videos, I took classes, and put hundreds of hours of practice in. I am just trying to get a jumpstart before I pursue nail technician school after I graduate high school. I hope to dually enroll in college so that I can also earn a business degree to follow my dreams of being able to open my own salon one day.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I wish I could say nail art is something you are able to learn overnight, but the reality is you never stop learning as a nail artist. The trends are ever-changing and I find myself stepping out of my comfort zone frequently. It truly takes hours and immense practice. If you are ever looking to pursue something like this, reach out to people in the same field in your community. It never hurts to ask questions and everyone had insight they can share. I have met a few wonderful girls that helped me along my nail journey, especially my wonderful nail artist friend Destiny. So reach out and pursue your passions!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am proud of myself for how incredibly hard I work. I am currently 17 and a high school senior. I go to school five days a week, I work at Vons five days a week, and I do nails three days a week. I rarely have a day off but when you are pursuing something you are passionate about it doesn’t feel like work. I began my nail journey when I was 15 years old and soon, I will be 18, I am proud of the amazing progress I have made. Doing nails is something I absolutely love. I have been able to create such beautiful art on such incredible women. My mom has been my utmost biggest supporter and I cannot be more thankful for that.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
COVID-19 gave me the time to pursue my passion. I had more free time so I was able to practice more and see progress quicker.
