Meet Lauren Torres

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Torres.

Hi Lauren, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I obtained the desire to live a healthy lifestyle when I joined the Marine CORPS in 2011 at 19 years old, with all the hikes, zero’dark thirty runs, bi-yearly physical fitness qualifications & mental barriers I had to break through during my enlistment, this is where I used not just motivation but discipline to get through the times I wanted to give up. I use this experience to encourage my training clients to strive for more. After leaving the military, I knew I still wanted to serve and help people but to spread the word on the benefits of keeping the mind-body balanced with being active & to maintain restorative habits. I earned my personal training certification in 2015 & trained people from all walks of life with some wanting to lose weight, grandmothers wanting to stay healthy & balanced on their toes, & injury recovery. Then in 2019, I went to Pacific College to earn my massage certification & Applied Health & Science Associates. As I started my mobile massage therapy business in 2020, in hindsight it didn’t seem ideal, but once people met me & received my services, I’m blessed to say that my business took off with such an upright stride that now in 2022, I still massage most of the clients as a monthly routine for them to take care of themselves.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Many people know that there are a lot of benefits of being able to work as your own boss, but they tend to forget that you have to wear many hats to get some of the smallest tasks done from janitor to CEO. Besides being the face & name of your business, you are your own promoter, customer service operator, accountant, & photographer or videographer, especially taking advantage of social media as a tool. When you run your own business, the phrase “time is money” is golden, while launching Harmonize the Physique this is when I had learn to schedule on separating the time to work & time to rest because if I’m not well or if clients call out, then I’m not earning my wages for my business nor am I providing for myself. And if your job tends to be seasonal like mine, it’s strongly advice to save during your profitable quarter, so that you are covered & not going under during your slow season. But when it’s all said & done, even on my worst days on the job, it’s a blessing to be my own boss, I make my own hours, get to meet new people almost every day, and I get to share with others of doing what I love!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My business, Harmonize the Physique, is explained within the name itself. I want to tell my clients and my loved ones that health is all about a balance or a harmony from the inside-out for your mind-body to operate at it’d full potential. Our bodies need to move like lift weights, pilates, dance, swim, etc., but also we need rest to replenish what we expended such as yin yoga, receive a massage, sleeping.

For my training clients, I train at a private facility called Steady State Performance in Point Loma, where I train one on one clients & host a yoga class called Flo with Lo on Friday mornings.

If you’d like to receive a massage therapy session from the comfort of your home, all you have to do is book a session with me directly or through my website & I bring everything to you! The massage modalities that are within my practice are Swedish, sports recovery, and Lymphatic drainage. I also have a couple add on services such as foot reflexology, cupping, and more.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
When I’m on my phone and not trying to be on IG, I use Duolingo to practice Spanish & Portuguese, play games like Bejeweled or Fruit Ninja, read my horoscope from The Pattern, and sometimes I use my GOWOD Mobility app to stretch

I love to use YouTube for inspiring Ted Talks, to watch & laugh with the show Hot Ones, when I workout at home for yoga or pilates I use either Five Parks Yoga or Dansique Fitness, and sometimes I’ll use it for background music or meditation/therapeutic sounds.

Admittedly I’m not the best book reader but right now, I’m slowly reading a fictional book called World Shaper & another book about a healing modality called ThetaHealing.

My favorite TV shows ranges from Bob’s Burgers, 30 Rock, Bloodline, & The Last Kingdom.
