Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Weidley.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Lauren. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I knew I wanted to be part of the wedding industry when I was a senior in high school. I was part of our Student Government team and fell in love with events and design. The wedding industry specifically felt perfect because I love events and I love for love – what better way to combine the 2.

I started in the wedding industry 8 years ago right before graduating college and have since been honored to be involved in the design and/or planning stages of more than 100 weddings.

I came on board with Chancey Charm after meeting Sarah, the owner, in Atlanta a few years ago. We chatted about launching a San Diego location and I had no doubts that I wanted to be the first in line to start it. Soon after talking about it, we made it happen. I made the move from the East Coast to the West and Chancey Charm West Coast was born.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As with the start of any small business or branch, there are always difficulties. There are unforeseen roadblocks and mistakes are inevitably made. I believe it’s how you handle those difficulties and how you recover from the mistakes that make you stronger as a business owner and entrepreneur.

For most small business owners, it’s their first time around, myself included. I don’t know everything and I can’t pretend to know everything. I think there is value in “faking it until you make it” but there is also value in knowing that it’s ok to try something new, and if failure comes then you get back up and try again. Having grace for yourself is important, I’m still learning that. Every stage of growing a business looks different and with that are a new set of challenges. Knowing that you’re doing your best as you grow and move with those changes takes a bit of the pressure off. I constantly remind myself that I’d rather be giving all that I have in an industry and career that I love rather than not trying at all and always wondering what could/would be if I had.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Moving across the country to continue doing something I love in a new place. I’m sure many small business owners can agree that at one point or another they asked themselves “But, what if it doesn’t work.” I’m on that train with them. There are always fears of failure when starting something, anything. Moving to San Diego to launch this location meant I wasn’t listening to those fears. It meant that I was choosing to take action and chase dreams.
