Laynee Dell, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
McKenzie Rae Peck has always been drawn to fashion. Starting at a young age she was sewing and designing dresses for her friends to wear to prom. McKenzie attended fashion school in New York City and had her designs featured during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. McKenzie’s longtime dream of owning her own dress store came to life about 6 months ago and has been flourishing ever since.
As a former Miss Utah, her vision was to bring the glitz and the glam of pageants and her fashion knowledge to our current location in beautiful downtown San Diego.
Has it been a smooth road?
The week McKenzie signed the lease to our 6,000 square foot pink building, she found out she was pregnant with her first child! Although it was a lot to process at first, she saw both as a huge blessing and a lot to look forward to!

Here at McKenzie Rae Dresses, we have over 5,000 different styles of dresses to choose from. Including shoes, accessories, and slimming body shapers. Whether your event is a simple date night out or a glamorous Holiday Ball, we believe each client deserves the perfect dress unique to their own style. That is why we guarantee to all our customers that we will never sell the same dress to the same event.
We are known as the iconic pink building downtown. Each customer who walks through our door is promised to receive exceptional service from our seasoned dress stylists. Sip a glass of complimentary champagne and shop with ease, knowing the dress you love can be ordered specific to your exact measurements.
Our store offers it its own light up runway and we frequently have events that feature it!
We are the only store south of Los Angeles to carry the show stopping designer, Mac Duggal. Nine Miss USA 2017 hopefuls donned a Mac Duggal gown in this year’s pageant and with good reason! Each dress has a one-of-a-kind style with exquisite detail. The exclusivity of this brand draws in clients from miles away to McKenzie Rae Dresses. We also carry other glamorous designers as well, including Minuet, Terani Couture, and Alyce Paris.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the constant activities this city has to offer. From the Del Mar Horse Races to Marine Balls, there are always fun events happening within San Diego where a special dress is needed. We love being able to help women find the perfect statement dress. A downside would be the lack of different seasons here in San Diego. McKenzie Rae Dresses has so many different winter styles that we would love to sell more of, but there isn’t a high demand due to the nice weather year-round!
