Meet Leon Dawes of Santa Monica

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leon Dawes.

Hi Leon, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Well as a kid! I came from a musical parent! My mom was a singer with KC and the Sunshine Band! She was very creative in the arts as well! I guess you could say that I inherited much of her creative genius! We both were victims of domestic violence! I would watch my mother many days, still work through and spend time with my brothers and I. While she would be going through so much pain! I discovered that I had the talent to draw. And from there, With my interest in Sci fi and fantasy and faith. I created The character Ecclesiastes! I begin to continue to develop the character through the years! All the way to college! Copyrighting and trademark the character and her world!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Well aside from the prior obstacles and issues I stated. There was always the issue of provision for the character. Which is monetary responsibility towards travel to conventions, printing posters and media coverage! And having an ever growing concern for my mother as she aged! I really wanted her to see the product of what she inspired me to do! It s always a challenge to keep the character and the series in front of people! And to let people know, That you don’t have to be a product of your environment! You can make a choice! Your environment doesn’t have to necessarily dictate you future.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I moved to Los Angeles to actually pursue a career in acting and graphic design! As I was in art animation college. I was getting modeling gigs for video game companies! I booked my first gig as Oscar De La Hoya’s boxing opponent in Knockout Kings 2! Then I booked more video game movies! I was doing a lot of featured work on The Parker’s tv show, where I met Monique the actress comedienne! And from there I was doing U/5’s on Days of our Lives soap opera! While auditioning for other soap operas too! I was always bringing my artwork with me and my characters. Constantly trying to plug and find some venue to push and produce them in! Through the years after some of my acting and modeling stuff. I was able to create my own Comicbook and put it out on the market! Which is still out and current today! Book six goes into production soon!

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I Was a Playgirl model for awhile! And the issue I was in happen to be a top selling issue to date! The Fast and the furious issue , With Tyrese on the cover! I have been fortunate though. The publication did help me promote my Comicbook series! And has been very supportive of my career. It was a stepping stone. I chose to stay focused on my art and other endeavors. And not to do anymore of that genre of work!
