Today we’d like to introduce you to Leonardo Vazquez.
Leonardo, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was born and raised here in San Diego, I’m the oldest of 3 siblings and the oldest of 30 grandchildren. I’m married to my beautiful wife Hilda and have 3 gorgeous children Leonardo Jr (7), Emiliano (4), Carolina (7 months). I spend a lot of time on the baseball fields supporting my boys that both play baseball. I come from a construction background family, I would always work on construction job sites with my father on the weekends and during my summer vacations. I got my Bachelors in Criminal Justice Administration from San Diego State University.
After graduating from SDSU I became a property adjuster for Farmers Insurance, this is where I learned all the insurance language and coverages. I enjoyed being an adjuster, however, I didn’t like that fact that I wasn’t able to restore peoples homes and help them put their homes back together. I wanted to do more than write the checks to the homeowners, I wanted to actually be part of the process, so I was offered to go work with a large restoration franchise and run their restoration division.
After running the restoration division for several years, with my wife (Hilda) support, I decided to get my contractors license and start up my own restoration company Xpress Restoration Inc. (where I would make sure that the customers are put first and are the top priority of my staff and company) We are going on 10 years of business now and have been able to employ other like minded individuals that continue to help our growth and help homeowners/business owners get their properties and lives back to normal after suffering fire and water damages.
Has it been a smooth road?
Being and entrepreneur hasn’t been easy, but I knew this when I first started. I’ve had to take many financial risks to start the business, I’ve also had to work very long hours, both on the field and in the office. My industry is very competitive, but staying on top of the industry standards and always doing what is right for our customers has helped us retain our customers and continue to have them refer their friends and family to us when their homes suffer water or fire damages.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Xpress Restoration Inc. story. Tell us more about the business.
My business specializes in residential and commercial insurance claims, we respond to water and fire damages emergencies 24/7/365, we offer full-service restoration. We are licensed to do it all from start to finish, this helps our customers not have to deal with multiple companies. I’m most proud of the team that I’ve been able to build over the years, I have a very passionate and dedicated team that is always willing to help each other and always looking after our clients. I’m proud of the family atmosphere that we have here at Xpress Restoration Inc.
What sets us apart from our competition is that we offer full-service restoration to our customers from start to finish, we offer to finance for customers that are looking to do upgrades and or when their claims are denied, and what makes us stand out from the competition is that I as the owner used to be a property adjuster. Because I was a property adjuster I teach all my staff what they need to know and how we can best help our customer and their insurance carriers, this helps us communicate with the adjusters and move the restoration process along faster.
In turn, our customers benefit when they use us because my staff is able to explain everything to them, especially when they’ve never filed a claim and this is their first time dealing with their insurance company. The other thing that sets us apart is that we have dedicated project managers that handle our customer’s projects, in other words, our customers have a project manager assigned to help them through the process.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Technology will keep improving and help our industry continue to grow, I also see a lot of businesses and insurance carriers going to automated systems and online communication instead of a live person. My business will, however, always offer a live person that our customers can talk too.
