Meet LeRoy Henley IV of Satellite Music Entertainment in East San Diego

Today we’d like to introduce you to LeRoy Henley IV.

Thanks for sharing your story with us LeRoy. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My name is LeRoy artist name LeeBoi Originally from Florida I moved to California in 2012 to pursue a career in football. I played Wide Receiver at Grossmont College (El Cajon). While me and some of my teammates would visit Madd Records Studio to make use of our musical talent, I had my eyes set for the NFL.Playing wideout for Grossmont with the likes of Tim Patrick (Denver Bronco) and Nick Kurtz (former BYU WR) wasn’t the most favorable situation, but I managed to pull in a scholarship offer to Southern Utah to further my career by The end of my redshirt sophomore year (2015) but before I could finish with my AA I had a daughter on the way. This news scared me completely away from school and football. I joined the workforce immediately finding a job at Walmart to prepare for the drastic life change. Being that I was working and not “dreaming” it became too repetitive for me life could not be over for me at 22. Remembering the times from freshman year in the studio with my teammates, I invested in studio equipment to build an in house recording booth.

With self-taught production, I recorded over 150 songs before I put out my first single and EP (XXL). I was very skeptical about the career shift, but the reception was more than I could have imagined. From 2016-2019 I grew personally and in my endeavors, I have been to Vegas, LA and all over San Diego performing the music that I made in my own home! Not only have I raised awareness for me and my brand but I have also help start and or help grow careers of other artists under the S.M.E. imprint like San Diego artist Danny Phantom and Florida artist SME Fat Rick whose music can be found on all platforms. From the Kuumba Festival to the Divine Legacy Fashion show to little while in the wall line ups, I’ve been on all levels where the Satellite Music Entertainment logo is recognized without introduction.

We even were blessed to be invited as special guests to LAFW 2019. As a partner to the Divine Legacy collective, we were headed to New York for a 3rd self-produced fashion show but Covid-19 has other plans to start 2020 off but never the less I am still working from home trying to find a way to get through this uneasy time. With a new music video out now “Dead” with San Diego artist Tony Saint we are working on the release of a joint EP. With a few more songs to record and visuals to shoot this should by far be my best and most meaningful work.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
NOT AT ALL!! I started off recording in my one bedroom with a newborn baby. Also, as I grew the empire by adding new artists to the roster that added financial obligations as well as managerial obligations. I was not only trying to create for myself but also for other people form images to lyrics to traveling to wardrobe all of that comes into play. And the more time money and effort I spent on them the less time money and effort I put into my family. There are all types of overhead that you don’t really consider until you think about it. The gas it takes to get your artists to my house to record, food, drinks, and even personal things that help foster the mood to create.
