Today we’d like to introduce you to Li Lah Evans-Benford.
Li Lah, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
We are Bear’s Incredible Edibles! My mom called me Bear from birth (hint, which is where the name comes from) there was even a catchy song my parents would sing to me as a child. She was my inspiration and passion behind the desserts and it’s because of her that I bake.
One day, many moons ago, I got into my mother’s recipe books and the bright red Betty Crocker Cookbook caught my eye, and I tried baking every dessert in the book as a teenager. Of course, I started with baking for the holidays then birthdays and now for any and everyone. Long story short, I have been baking ever since!
Has it been a smooth road?
Opening any business is going to have its challenges we currently live in a social media world and I’ve had to adapt to that. I am still guilty of not posting pictures as much as I should or promoting my business as much as I need to but I am aware and realize what I need to do to be the successful businesswoman I want to be. There are growing pains and adaptions to make in any business and I am willing to make the necessary adjustments to prosper and share my Bear’s Incredible Edibles with the world.

My Business is Bear’s Incredible Edibles. I love to make all desserts; however, my passion is for cupcakes! I love how you can be ever so creative with decorating or filling them with delicious treats and wowing the customer. I am open to creating any dessert requests and flavors. I love free-styling and creating new ideas, especially a challenge something that hasn’t been done before, I’ll take on any task to make a memorable experience for anyone. So please feel free to share your ideas with me, so I can make your dreams incredible and edible! I love to spread love and the opportunity for everyone to have an Incredible Edible in their life.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
San Diego is a great place for entrepreneurs; in general, it is not an oversaturated market at this time. There are so many different events, venues and different people that you can connect with which makes this a good place for starting any business.
I recommend networking to the fullest if your not out there nobody will know that you are here or that your business even exist, it’s all about being relevant meeting people and getting your business out there collaborating with similar businesses that will promote you and you can promote them as well “scratch my back I’ll scratch yours”. I have met a lot of people from networking that enjoy working with smaller businesses and tend to utilize smaller businesses for the culture and to promote small business its nice to be in a city that is open about trying new things and businesses.
