Meet Lindsay Payton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay Payton.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I’ve always found refuge from everyday life in stories. The raconteurs that made up my childhood influenced an eventual need to express my own stories through fiction, and now illustration. A few years ago, fiction was put on the back burner to make way for the drawings that were quickly taking over. Today, I continue my narrative illustrations featuring urban legends, monsters in their element, macabre hidden creatures, and ancient fears. Making life less mundane by bringing light to the darkest tales of old, so they are never forgotten.

Please tell us about your art.
I create my illustrations using ink, pastel, acrylic, and gouache, drawing heavy inspiration from folklore. I hope to remind people of these old stories from our culture, and the importance of everlasting storytelling.

Given everything that is going on in the world today, do you think the role of artists has changed? How do local, national or international events and issues affect your art?
Artists have always held a special place in our society, and especially today I believe it is important to use art as a voice. I try to keep a good outlook and keep creating to inspire others to nourish their imagination.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
I frequently post on Instagram @pinseyrose and enjoy sharing and interacting with people there. I will have a piece contributing to an Edgar Allan Poe themed show “I Pity Da Poe” on October 6th in LA at The Hive Gallery & Studios.
