Meet Lisa M. Gualco of Hazard Center in Mission Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa M. Gualco.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve been in the commercial real estate industry for 28 years, specializing in retail, office and mixed-use projects.

Since 2001, I’ve worked with PM Realty Group, serving as the general manager for Hazard Center – a prestigious 406,000 square foot retail and high-rise office mixed use project in Mission Valley.

Under my leadership, Hazard Center’s office tower has successfully housed numerous companies and won multiple awards. Specifically, Hazard Center Office Tower won the BOMA International TOBY – the most prestigious and comprehensive program of its kind in the commercial real estate industry, recognizing excellence in building management, operational efficiency, tenant retention and emergency planning – in addition to the BOMA San Diego TOBY and the Pacific Southwest Regional TOBY. San Diego’s Environmental Services Department selected Hazard Center’s retail center as “Recycler of the Year” in the 2017 Waste Reduction and Recycling Awards Program, recognizing the center’s outstanding recycling efforts. The office tower has received Energy Star Certification every year since 2003, achieved LEED EB O+M Silver Certification in 2010 and then improved that certification from Silver to Gold in 2015. Finally, Hazard Center’s office tower received the prestigious BOMA 360 Certification in 2013 and again in 2016. The BOMA 360 designation demonstrates that the building meets or exceeds the industry’s highest standards and tenants can rely on superior building management to control operating expenses and best-in-class service. The building achieved third-party verification of excellence in building operations and management, life safety, security and risk management, training and education for building personnel, energy management, environmental/sustainability performance and tenant relations and community involvement. Only those buildings that satisfy the requirements in all six areas are named a BOMA 360 Performance Building.

Additionally, since 2002, I’ve served on the First San Diego River Improvement Project Maintenance Assessment advisory board and I recently served on the advisory board of the San Diego River Park Foundation’s Discovery Center at Grant Park, which will advance understanding of the river and promote stewardship of the ecologic resource. I am also actively involved with several city projects that will positively impact Hazard Center and Mission Valley.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Hazard Center – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Hazard Center is unique because of its variety of offerings. From best-sellers to Hollywood blockbusters, dance lessons to dining out and virtually everything in between, Hazard Center has it all. And with over 2,000 free parking spaces (including covered underground parking), plus convenient access from the 163 and 8 freeways, we’re as easy to access as we are to enjoy. Hazard Center’s office tower is also home to some of the country’s top financial firms as well as accountants, attorneys, insurance companies and other national service companies.

Hazard Center is the family name of Roscoe “Pappy” Hazard and was so named by his son, Bruce Hazard, who developed Hazard Center. R.E. Hazard Contracting Company helped build a lot of San Diego’s highways and byways, and the Hazard brick making plant and construction yard stood for many years where Hazard Center now stands.

Over the years, Hazard Center has become the go-to destination shopping center in the heart of Mission Valley with some of the best dining, specialty shops and services offered in San Diego. Visitors appreciate Hazard Center’s central location and easy accessibility, as well as iconic brands such as Barnes & Noble, UltraStar Cinemas, BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse, Lakeshore, FedEx Office and Wood Ranch BBQ & Grill.
