Meet Liz Diaz of Deliz Gourmet in Chula Vista

Today we’d like to introduce you to Liz Diaz.

Liz, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Well, the food has been always my passion since I was three years old. I loved to be seated at the kitchen and put my littles hands on any recipe. I worked in the Hotel Industry in Mexico for almost seven years where I fell more in love with Mexican cuisine and always dreaming of having my own food-related company. I started my journey here in San Diego back in 2004 giving cooking classes to some of my close friends.

In 2015, I decided to produce Mexican Gourmet Sauces under the name “Simplemente Delicioso” with my own recipes; at that moment my dreams started to come true, founding a formal company, selling my sauces in privet events like Christmas Bazars and doing tastings in high seasons.

During the last four years, I have been learning a lot, from operational processes, legal aspects, governmental regulations, etc. I did the rebranding from “Simplemente Delicioso” to “Deliz Gourmet” and experimented with all that this implicates. Now, I have my own commercial kitchen, I have in the market four gourmet Sauces and Five Gourmet Seasonings, I’m in the developing 4 new products, writing a book with my favorite recipes, I do privet caterings and when I have time I still give the cooking classes that I love.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Start a business from zero is not always an easy road, but you have to be convinced that what you are doing is what you really want to do and that way you get the courage to achieve your dreams.

In my case, for example, something that became the pebble in the shoe was to have faced all the Health regulations that the Food Industry has to reach. But I knew that I have to comply with the regulations 100% to get to where I am right now.

When you find your passion for something, I dare to say that those struggles along the way that you talk about gives you the opportunity to strengthen you in many ways and helps you to be better in what you do.

It is very important to have very clear your goals and never lose them, always thinking positive and working hard, that way any obstacle that gets in the way can be overcome. It is also important to have in mind that it is better to make each step at a time with calm and taking care of each detail than try to reach your goal fast with a lot of mistakes.

Please tell us about Deliz Gourmet.
What I enjoy more is making gourmet sauces and seasonings that today are the heart of Deliz Gourmet, I use the flavors and ingredients that the Mexican gastronomy is known for, I have created beautiful blends of ingredients that became delicious recipes.

At Deliz Gourmet, I take on the task of satisfying the most demanding palates, I look for people to taste my products and be 100% satisfied, and have the assurance that each product purchased was made with ingredients of the highest quality, with the care and love that each consumer deserve.

My mother used to say “If you are going to do something, do it in the best way” and I think that is the sets my products apart from the others. I took the task of taking care of each detail, in the image, the selection of ingredients and much more, but first of all, I put my passion in each task and that way when you have in your hands any of Deliz Gourmet jars and taste any product you can feel that passion and love. I am glad to say that now many people can reach my products in different markets.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I’m very lucky because my childhood was full of beautiful memories, but one of those I remember with more love is when I spent my summer and winter breaks at my Grandmother’s home and helped her to cook typical Mexican sweets.

During each year, she made 8 different types of candy, some were Fruit-Based and others Chocolate-based. At the end of the year, she filled beautiful boxes made by my Dad and gave them as a Christmas gift to family and friends.

Being with her in the kitchen was an incredible experience because I feel that it was there that I learned many simple tricks that I know now and put into practice when I cook.
