Today we’d like to introduce you to Lizeth Vega, Luis Morales, Jessica Palmerín and Miguel Morales.
Vertical Climb Fitness was founded by two couples: Luis and Liz & Miguel and Jessica (a family business, as Luis and Miguel are brothers). We all took our first class using the Versa climber at a studio in Los Angeles last year and fell in love with it right away, for different reasons. We loved that the machine met our very specific fitness needs, in a fun and dynamic way. Through this exercise, we got the benefits of cardio, weightlifting and HIIT trainings, though not through the usual gym experiences. On top of that, we found it to be a well-rounded and efficient workout, suited for a fast-paced lifestyle: in thirty minutes, one could burn up to 600 calories and work practically every muscle of their body.
We had been discussing for some time the possibility of starting a business together. The four of us are fitness enthusiasts and, in this way, had a sense of the market already. However, after doing some more thorough research, we discovered that there wasn’t anything quite like this in the San Diego/Tijuana region. At this point, we started to envision a fitness studio focused on the Versa Climber.
Coming from different backgrounds: business, medicine and psychology, we all had something different to add to the table. But as we began to develop the concept of Versa Climb Fitness, we all agreed that the machine, as great as it was, could not be the sole key to our success. We needed and wanted to create a concept studio that would foster a community, a place where anyone —be it a busy professional, a student or a stay-at-home parent— could leave their problems at the door and work toward their fitness goals in a welcoming environment.
After more research, we came up with the perfect compliment for our studio: the strenght room, a personalized class focused in weights training excercises.
We hit a few roadblocks along the way. However, we finally opened our doors exactly one year after that first class in Los Angeles on January 18, 2020. Thinking of people on both sides of the border, we are centrally located ten minutes from the San Ysidro International Port of Entry.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Besides the struggle finding the ideal location and the construction kept being delayed for different reasons, another challenge we faced was finding coaches who met our demanding needs, as we wanted motivating people with good vibe, who are passionate about coaching and that inspire others.
However, one of the biggest challenges that we have had and maybe we will continue to have is the decision-making, being four very different personalities, although we know that at the end of the day we make the
perfect balance.
Vertical Climb Fitness – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Vertical Climb Fitness is a fitness studio with a positive, inclusive and welcoming environment were we focus in the ability to connect with people, making them feel happy and helping them achieve their fitness goals.
The studio’s main selling point are the Versa climber workouts, a thirty minute workout where you can burn up to 600 calories and work practically every muscle of your body. This class is done in a room full of energy, with LED lighting that coordinates with the music and coaches that motivate you to give your best and go higher and higher every day. However, we also offer the perfect complement for your training: Personalized classes in our state-of-the-art strength training room. These classes are led by certified trainers that help you build your dream body and reach your fitness goals without compromising your physical integrity. During the week, classes focus on a specific muscle group and we finish up strong on Saturday, with a full-body workout.
Vertical Climb Fitness is also home to Vertical Coffee Bar, where you can find high-quality gourmet coffee and tea drinks (with no sugar ever!), healthy snacks and sandwiches. As part of our added services, we offer a daycare center to take care of our guests’ children while they work out.
Another thing that makes us really proud is that we are trying to reduce our impact on the environment by reducing our consumption of plastic, reducing our waste and recycling water. Instead of selling water bottles, we have a free water dispenser for customers to fill their flasks, discount in the coffee bar if they bring their own cup and a water recycling system.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
To create a community where we can have a positive impact in peoples lives and inspire them by instilling the habit of exercising in a safe way to avoid injuries so that they fall in love with that lifestyle as much as we do, and always be a place where people can forget their problems and get a smile out of them.
