Today we’d like to introduce you to Louis Frey.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Louis. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I grew up in Southern California, and I am a mainly self-taught artist with the exception of some schooling. I specialize in illustration and design and have been doing freelance part-time for about three years now. My business has been steadily growing over the last few years and It’s been a huge learning process for me, with new challenges to tackle every day. I currently live in San Clemente with my wife, and also work part-time at Sur coffee, the sister store of OB beans in Ocean Beach.
Has it been a smooth road?
I think I have found that freelance illustration is a struggle in general. You have to do everything yourself and it takes a lot of work, not just the illustration, to make that happen. That being said, the biggest struggle so far has been the pandemic. I have lost a lot of clients and I don’t know what to expect moving forward, but freelance has never been a predictable profession anyways.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with your work – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Currently, I’m a one-man business and I do illustration and design. I specialize in logos, posters, and branding. I’m proud of all the work I’ve been able to create alongside my clients. My style is inspired by traditional vintage illustration, but with a more modern minimalistic approach.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Petco Park is my favorite stadium! Nothing beats a day or night at the ballpark. I can’t think of anything I dislike about San Diego.
