Meet Luii Lope

Today we’d like to introduce you to Luii Lope.

Luii, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My name is Luii Lope and I host The Kick It Podcast. Hailing from Oceanside, I also do music although It hasn’t been my main focus at the moment. I guess we can say the podcast stemmed from a few different points. A podcast or talk show had been brought up with some of my fútbol (soccer) buddies after we’d finish playing. We would just “kick it” afterward, talking and roasting each other. It was an idea that was quickly forgotten. After a while, my homie JT Aktiv needed an intro for a music video he was shooting. The person who was originally supposed to do it couldn’t make it so I stepped in and did it.

After that, I started doing a “web-series” with Victor V called “What Up! Wednesday” where I would do a small interview with local artists, athletes, and business owners. From there I linked up with Jesse, Horse, and Yoshi, who are some of my soccer buddies and started The Kick It Podcast. Initially, it was pretty much soccer news and roasting each other, but I always wanted to do an episode or two on the local music scene. Eventually, the rest of the crew dropped out and Leslie of the Coffee With Leslie blog joined the podcast. At the moment the podcast takes residency at Oceanside Brewing Company where we host the podcast every Thursday.

Has it been a smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road but it hasn’t been a rough one either so far. I would say it’s more of a nice road with a few potholes along the way. The struggles that I’ve faced so far, (at least as far as the podcast goes) would be the original members leaving the podcast due to life. Horse had to leave due to the podcast taking too much time away from his family. Yoshi left to pursue a career in law enforcement and Jesse left to continue his own podcast called “How We See It.” Another struggle I faced, is learning how to edit and everything that is needed to run a podcast. I am still learning as I go.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
We specialize in giving people a platform to introduce themselves and helping them network with other people that can help them achieve what they are trying to accomplish. There aren’t many podcasts in San Diego let alone North County that do that. I’m proud of the fact that we get to meet, know, and listen to people’s stories and share them with our listeners. What sets us apart from others is that we aren’t necessarily interviewing people that come on the show. It’s more of a conversation where we “kick it” and talk about different topics that aren’t in a who are you and what do you do format.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes! Definitely! Oceanside and all of San Diego is a melting pot where there are many different things to be a part of. We have one of the largest military bases in Camp Pendleton, one of the busiest borders in the world. All of this gives us a unique culture because everyone is accepting of it since it has been something that has been viewed as normal for as far as I can remember. It’s a great place to start since it’s a place that is starting to grow bigger than it already is and people are starting to embrace networking and helping each other. Although the standard of living is higher than in other places, it’s definitely worth it.
