Today we’d like to introduce you to Luis Garcia.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was born in Oakland, CA and raised in Tijuana for nine years. That’s when I became exposed to art making by my step-grandfather who was a graphic designer then. From that time on I never stopped creating art. Eventually, my family and I moved to the United States, around the age of eight. Temecula of all places (haha). This sudden move from one country to another was a complete culture shock to me.
Since then, I’ve been living in San Diego for about seventeen years. Ever since I can remember, I’ve had an interested in the unknown, UFO’s, surreal art, metaphysical symbols, psychedelia, and Philosophy. Those interests fueled my creative output. It wasn’t until I began to attend concerts, warehouse events, and gallery shows in middle and high school that I felt a feeling of belonging in the arts and music community. From there, I began to take my craft as a Visual Artist with purpose.
Has it been a smooth road?
I create art for my self. It’s more of a survival mechanism more than anything. It’s difficult to articulate it if I’m being honest with you. With that being said, there’s definitely been obstacles in regards to my art career. I never considered going to art school, to begin with. I’m a self-taught artist, and I’ve always been very introspective my whole life.
As an artist, you need to put yourself and your work out there, and that has always been a huge struggle to me. I keep to my self a lot. It takes time for me to feel comfortable in new environments and new people. Up until recently, I have found comfort in my own skin. I think my art reflects that very well.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with OOGLIOO – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I’m a freelance visual artist.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I have a love and hate relationship with San Diego. I love my city because it contains a little bit of everything. The people are great, and everything is not too far from each other.
I dislike it because I find my self driving to LA for my favorite warehouse and gallery events too often. It’s growing for sure, and there are great, hard-working people doing great things for this city in regards to the arts and music community. But that’s just my perspective.
