Today we’d like to introduce you to Lydia Flowers
Hi Lydia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’m a San Diego native raised in what some see as a bubble of perfection. San Diego is a beautiful place with beautiful people, and I struggled in finding my own beauty most of my life. I always had issues with my weight and was groomed to just think I was “thiccer” or “big boned” compared to others. In no way was I close to the “Baywatch Body” standard that San Diego locals were perceived as. Fighting to love myself I tried every fad diet, trick, pill and scam out there to lose weight, and it wasn’t until 2022 that I decided to stop looking at losing weight as a quick fix, challenge or phase, and started looking at what does living a healthy life look like. I started showing up for myself every day, even if it was in the smallest of ways. It became more than just a physical change for me, it bloomed into a self acceptance journey that ultimately led me into self love. When I learned that it wasn’t another “fad diet” that would assist me in achieving my goals, I was able to find my rhythm of consistency in my fitness journey. Understanding that, this was in fact a complete lifestyle change and no longer a “diet” I was able to reach new levels within myself and my own mindset. 100+ pounds lost later and now I am ready to put myself out there to become that stepping stone for others. I have over a decade of experience in learning and development within the financial sector, so my passion for the development in others has always been there. I believe by helping others reach their fitness goals, I will be able to use my skills and experience to change lives in such a positive way. And that is something that will fill MY cup!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all—it’s been anything but smooth, but every challenge has shaped who I am today. Transitioning from a corporate career to pursuing my passion for fitness, self-love coaching, and entrepreneurship has been a journey of self-discovery and resilience. One of the biggest struggles was finding the courage to step away from the stability of a corporate job and lean into the uncertainty of building something on my own. There were moments of self-doubt, wondering if I was capable of making my vision a reality or if others would truly connect with my message.
Another challenge has been balancing my personal growth while helping others grow. You can’t pour from an empty cup, so I’ve had to prioritize my mental, physical, and spiritual health. This journey has also taught me to embrace imperfections, in myself and in the process, and see them as opportunities to grow stronger.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My business, The Garden Space LLC, is more than just a fitness or coaching platform—it’s a sanctuary for growth, healing, and transformation. I specialize in helping individuals on their journey to self-love by empowering them to take charge of their mental, physical, and spiritual well-being. Through personal training, self-love coaching, and community-building, I focus on creating a safe and supportive space where people can reconnect with themselves and their goals.
What sets The Garden Space apart is our holistic approach. I believe true transformation goes beyond physical changes—it’s about cultivating a mindset of self-worth, resilience, and joy. My clients aren’t just working out or setting goals; they’re learning to embrace who they are and discover the power they hold within to create the life they desire. I’m here to guide and support them every step of the way, offering personalized programs, motivational resources, and a deep understanding of their unique challenges and dreams.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of how The Garden Space has become a source of inspiration and hope for others. Whether it’s through my social media presence, personalized coaching, or group classes like “Booty Pump” and “Thicc Thighs Save Lives,” I aim to make fitness and self-love approachable and fun. Seeing my clients and community grow in confidence and happiness is the greatest reward.
I want readers to know that The Garden Space is a place for anyone ready to invest in themselves. Together, we can build the foundation for a healthier body, stronger mind, and more fulfilled life. Let’s grow together!
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was a light of joy, laughter, and curiosity. My mother worked hard to create a warm and vibrant childhood, and I embraced that fully. I was an artistic child, always exploring creative outlets like drawing, writing, and music, and I naturally gravitated toward nurturing others—whether it was a friend, a family member, or even a pet. I loved the idea of making people feel seen, valued, and cared for, which is something that still defines me today.
My innocence and kind intentions as a child are what make me so empathetic now. I’ve always been deeply attuned to the emotions and needs of others, which has become one of my greatest strengths. While life wasn’t without its challenges, I like to think those experiences taught me resilience and the importance of healing. As I’ve grown, I’ve learned how to channel that joy and curiosity from my childhood into everything I do—especially my passion for helping others find their light, even in tough times.
