Meet LyKai Johnson of Moments Remembered Events

Today we’d like to introduce you to LyKai Johnson.

LyKai, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My story started when I was in high school and I loved decorating my friends’ lockers on their birthday and doing big gestures for holidays. My passion for event planning just grew as I was in college and working. During college, I took a wedding and event planning certificate course at SDSU and after the first few classes, I was hooked!

After college I took a job at an English as a second language school, where I where was able to plan and organize many corporate events all over the world. After working there for nine years, I realized that the part of my job I loved the most was planning events; so, I started working part-time as an Assistant Wedding Planner.

Working as an assistant planner was amazing and it gave me the drive to start my own business, Moments Remembered Events! Today, I have been in business for 3 years and I have enjoyed every minute of it. I love working with my brides and grooms to create their perfect vision and helping to make that vision come to life.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road but the challenges and bumps in the road have only helped me grow. Going from an assistant planner to owning an operating my own business was hard work. I have learned to embrace the struggles as well as the triumphs that come with running a business. I have learned so much over the past 3 years and those learnings have helped me improve my business and ultimately provide an amazing experience for all my brides and grooms.

Moments Remembered Events – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I run a wedding and event planning business. I plan all kind of events such as baby showers, bridal showers, birthday parties, anniversaries, and of course, weddings! I specialize in wedding planning. I am most proud of the relationships I build with my clients. I work very hard to ensure each client has an amazing event experience.

I treat their event the same as if it were my own. If it means I have to work more hours, drive around town or even get dirty, I will do it to please my client. My client’s happiness is the most important to me. I like to consider my business a place for clients who not only want to have a smooth successful day but to also be treated with a 5-star service.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I personally define success as being happy. For me being happy means knowing my clients are happy and their happiness equals success to me.

Just knowing that what I am doing is helping someone else treasure their day is very special to me. I know that each event that I do is a big life moment for my clients and I feel very honored that I get to share in the happiness of these special occasions.
