Today we’d like to introduce you to Madison Hahn.
Madison, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Art has always been a part in my life and something I’ve been passionate about. I always had various hobbies and creative outlets but nothing ever held my attention for too long. Growing up I spent a lot of time at my grandparents’ house. Especially in the garage with my Papa. He owned his own business painting houses but always had creative side projects and hobbies he’d pick up. One of those being stained glass. He shared his passion for glass art with me and was one of my biggest supporters in starting this business.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth road but it has gotten me to where I am today. I had to self-teach myself certain techniques such as making the mirrors I do. A lot of blood, sweat and tears but I wouldn’t have had it any other way. I always dreamed of this being my main gig but I never really believed I could do it, but after losing my job during COVID it pushed me to really take the business on seriously. It was a scary gamble but I am in the glass shop now full time!
Mad Glass Gurl – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a stained glass artist who makes custom designs and mirrors. I have a huge passion for music, ranging from heavy metal to old country and everything in between. It is my biggest influence on the pieces I make. I am know for my custom mirrors and one of a kind panels. I also have ongoing themed series such as my biker skulls and album covers. I am proud that I am a one woman run business who started this company on my own. I get to wake up every day and spend my time doing what I love all thanks to the support of my customers and loved ones. I think what sets me apart from others is my creative vision in the items I design. I get a lot of custom orders and I love being able to challenge myself and make something unique and special for someone.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My 85-year-old Papa taught me everything he knew about stained glass when I was 13 years old. Over the years he has been my mentor and best friend. He is extremely supportive of me following my dreams. Even despite his failing eyesight he will come over to my shop space and spend time watching me work and giving creative input. He will always be special to me because he was the reason, I was able to start this business.
