Today we’d like to introduce you to Mainsail Nick Lanari.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Mainsail started as a way for Nick Lanari (Vocalist/Guitarist) & James Moyer (Lead Guitar) to unwind one day after work. Two and a half years of shows and an EP later was when we realized we had something very special. Mainsail became the band that we always wanted. We had been raised on punk rock since we were kids and the sound we developed fit us like a glove. Every show grew us tighter as a band. We developed a fan base throughout San Diego County, and along with it a deepening conviction that this is what we should be doing with our lives. Mainsail has been fortunate to have some small successes such as receiving the 91x Local Break & playing the 2017 Vans Warped Tour in San Diego to name a few. This summer we will embark on our longest & furthest tour (dates TBA soon) and we couldn’t be more excited. We are getting close to 4 years and 100 shows into this thing and it feels like it’s just the beginning.
Please tell us about your art.
Mainsail is a pop-punk/punk rock band from Oceanside, CA. We make music and play shows to make people feel good. Our hope is that our songs will be a source of joy and comfort for as many people as possible. Pain is temporary. Failure is not permanent. Success is not permanent. We are more than even the sum of these things. The only things that last are kindness and love. Mainsail is a vehicle to express these things and more.
What do you think about conditions for artists today? Has life become easier or harder for artists in recent years? What can cities like ours do to encourage and help art and artists thrive?
I think there are more tools at artists disposal than ever before, but vying for peoples attention has become more difficult than it has ever been.
I think cities and communities can elevate art by placing a value in local music, local talent and the local music scene as a whole. When I was growing up, so many of my favorite bands were local / indie bands. My wish is to see our culture once again place value in music that is lesser known, and less value in mainstream artists just because they are popular.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
The best ways you can support our work is by listening to our music on either Spotify or Apple Music & sharing it with your friends. And also coming out to see us on tour and in our hometown at the legendary punk venue Soma San Diego.
