Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcus Hanish.
Marcus, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I immigrated to America when I was 16 years old with barely any money to my name, and I would like to attribute that to one of the reasons why I work as hard as I do. I gave myself no option other than to succeed, and every day I still continue to chase that goal. I was always generally a creative, artistic person, and so when it came down to decide what it was that I should pick as my career I chose both fashion and hair. As I was able to exercise my talents best in those fields. I created a name for myself at A Robert Cromeans Salon, working there for eight years and becoming one of the lead master hairstylists.
Eventually, I set my goal for Hollywood and worked at Prive in LA where at the same time I decided that it was time for my own salon in San Diego. I opened Salon de Marcus in 2009 and I am proud to say we have been in business for 10 years. Of course, I am never satisfied, and three years after opening Salon de Marcus I decided to open Boutique de Marcus where we sell custom-designed dresses, designed by myself and also custom designed men and women dress shirts
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Being that English isn’t my first language, communication was definitely a struggle. It also always a challenge getting in touch with the right people, in terms of helping you get to the next step of where you want to be, but eventually you get there.
Salon and Boutique De Marcus – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are a salon and boutique and we specialize in making people look and feel their best. Our boutique is unique because we create custom made dresses designed specifically by myself with our clients in mind, and we also sell men and women dress shirts designed by myself as well, and everyday men and women’s clothing and accessories, while providing our customers with alterations and fittings.
So we basically are your one-stop shop. Our salon offers a wide variety of services and we have talented hairstylist with top quality service. We definitely cater to both our customer and clients and make sure that they always leave happy and satisfied!
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define success as expansion (seeing your business grow) and happy and satisfied repeated customers.
