Hi Mariami, thank you so much for sitting down with us again. For folks who might have missed our initial interview, can you start by briefly introducing yourself?
Hello! I’m a recording artist and songwriter originally born in Georgia the country (not the state.) I grew up in New York and studied Music & Arts at Emerson College and Berklee College of Music and moved to Los Angeles in 2018 to further expand my sound and brand. I studied Musical Theater and Jazz and grew up in a household that championed music so from an early age I fell in love with the Arts. My passion for songwriting came alive at 19, when I first visited my country after having immigrated at the age of 6. I was so filled with awe at the culture, topography, food and people that I was exploding at the seams with inspiration and love. I began writing songs for my first album then and never stopped.
What are your new vocal sample packs all about?
The new vocal sample packs are like mini-journeys into the many songwriting genres I love to write in. Each pack contains 4 original songs with original melodies, lyrics, harmonies and ad-libs. It’s a chance for producers to explore using my signature vocals to create their own original productions, to play and just have fun! The nostalgic pack draws inspiration from the sonic palette I use to create retro-vintage sounds on my records. They have an ambient, ethereal quality to them with long reverb tails and emotive layered harmonies. It’s very 70’s sounding! The EDM pack is more pop, punchy vocals, uplifting and high energy songs with upbeat melodies and EDM inspired vocal riffs and ad-libs. The Georgian pack is inspired by the folk melodies from my native country, the 4 songs are composed over folk string arrangements. The dips, inflections and harmonies in this pack are inspired by polyphonic music.
What inspired this pursuit?
I’ve done sample packs before for Loopmasters and Voclio and had so much fun writing the songs. It’s a medium that deviates from the traditional song format and allows you to create a whole ethos around one genre. I love writing melodies and lyrics so I found the whole narrative and compositional aspect of it amusing, being able to extract out the full sonic potential of one song with all its ad-libs, harmonies and layers. I also receive a huge demand from clients and producers for a specific vocal style using a signature vocal chain, so I thought it’d be exciting to have an accessible digital asset for producers to use that they could modify to their mixing and creative vision/ needs.
What are you hoping to achieve with these packs?
I’d love to add to them as the years go on and build a unique library of songs in different genres. I get so inspired by my travels, my relationships, friends, life experiences and music from around the world – sometimes one song will spark an idea that influences a whole new breath of expression and the array of ideas that come out of that new template birth a new genre.
What contribution do you feel is being made with these packs?
I think they speak to the times we live in. The narratives, stories and influences in these packs are a direct reflection of our day to day experiences as we navigate love, friendship, the unknown and exploration of the self and other.
What are the songs inspired by?
Very often love!
Which is your favorite pack?
Nostalgic so far
