Today we’d like to introduce you to Marisol Acosta.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I’m the owner of Sea & Sun Calligraphy which I began in 2016 in Murrieta, California. I’m a published calligrapher and floral watercolor artist. In middle school, I learned Italic calligraphy using a fountain pen. In 2012, I explored pointed pen calligraphy and fell in love with modern calligraphy. I then began to design wedding stationery, such as custom invitations, love letters, vow books, menu cards, and place cards. My first editorial styled shoot was at the beautiful, Enchanted Forest Weddings, a castle venue in Fall Brook, CA which was featured on Exquisite Wedding Magazine Blog. I’m also a vendor for Spoken Bride, a Catholic Blog for Catholic Brides.
Soon after, I began to explore watercolor. I learned online how to paint florals. My watercolor florals now grace my custom stationery and other products such as totes, backpacks, art prints, mugs, and home decor which I carry in my shops. I just recently customized a pair of Vans with my watercolor florals. My favorite watercolor paintings are florals.
My current collaboration is creating tea party paper goods for the magical venue, Moonflower Ranch, in Sage, CA. I am also passionate about teaching others about the beautiful art of Calligraphy. On my spare time, I host modern calligraphy lessons for children and adults in my home and at local art studios in the Murrieta/Temecula area. I have a Blog where I share calligraphy and watercolor tips.
Please tell us about your art.
I create many products with my handwritten calligraphy. I use a pointed pen, ink, and an inkwell to create custom stationery and products for my clients. With my watercolor florals, I can customize stationery which my clients request and also upload the artwork to many products in my shops such as pouches, notebooks, and totes.
What do you think is the biggest challenge facing artists today?
The biggest challenge facing artists today is getting noticed on social media.
