Meet Mark Benjamin of Mark Benjamin Studios

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark Benjamin.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Mark. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I moved to California three years ago looking to redefine myself. I was teaching tennis and music in Chicago for 15 years. I needed to connect myself with nature and my creative vision. After a year of teaching music, my path leads me back to photography, a passion from high school. I hadn’t developed this medium since when I was in the darkroom working with film in college.

Soon I began shooting often on camping trips to several national parks and other notable nature destinations. It wasn’t long before I started shooting food for restaurant menus. I also began developing my understanding of lighting and portrait work, attending workshops and working with world-class photographers.

Right now I’m developing my craft, creating reflective scenes and stories through my art. I’m currently booking shoots for portraits, headshots, private shoots and events.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has been a struggle gaining momentum and finding avenues for income in a saturated market.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Mark Benjamin Studios story. Tell us more about the business.
What I do is create everything in my scenes alone. I create a vision that tells a story. My event work captures the essence of an event and draws the audience into the emotions of the scene. I’m versatile and able to adapt well. I am a strong problem solver and I take pride in my attention to detail.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The industry is constantly changing. It’s difficult to say whether the rapid development of technology will do for photography. Right now it’s become more obsolete with the quality of smartphone cameras continually on the rise.
