Meet Marx King, Zacch Williams and Rebecca Sykes of The Kinky Velvets

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marx King, Zacch Williams and Rebecca Sykes.

The Kinky Velvets are a multi-genre band from San Diego, California formed by front man Zacch Vaughn Williams and guitarist Marx King in the summer of 2019. After writing a small set and releasing two singles, they were ready to showcase their music in a live setting. This is when Rebecca Sykes stepped in and has become part of the main lineup as their drummer.

The three members have created a unique sound which is inspired from genres like alternative, rock, jazz, blues, etc. Some artists that have had individual influences on them are Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Soda Stereo, Cage The Elephant, and more.

After about a year of focusing on live shows, they have decided to hit the studio. They are currently working on recording their first official EP and continuing to write new material.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
At the start of the band, The Kinky Velvets who were at the time, a duo was not able to play shows for a few months because they did not have a drummer. After getting a drummer, they also struggled with experimenting different lineups. They considered getting a pianist and for a period, played with a second guitarist. However, they shortly decided that the OG three piece had the best sound and work ethic.

We’d love to hear more about your music.
The Kinky Velvets have created a very unique sound unlike any other band in the area. They have taken part in many different shows in the San Diego area and hope to venture out to other places such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, and eventually other states.
