Mary, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I created Sister Shrub because I really wanted the benefits of daily ACV (Apple Cider Vinegar) but the taste of plain ACV is tough to swallow. I took the concept of an old-world Shrub, which is a vinegar drink that dates back many years and is often served in cocktails or mocktails, but I gave it a healthy twist. Sister Shrub is made entirely raw and only a small fraction of a sweetener (Organic Agave Nectar) is added. The flavor is bright and very refreshing and a WAY more enjoyable way to get your dose of ACV! About a month or two of having some days, my friends and family began to take notice and asked what I was doing differently. That’s when I knew I was on to something and to keep it going!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Gosh, does anyone not have challenges starting a business? I knew my concept was good, but taking the steps forward we’re scary. I have run businesses before, but this is different because it’s mine, they’re my creations and that can feel very vulnerable at times. I’ve learned to listen a lot, and accept that with each step or new experience I’m learning something new. Even if something doesn’t work out how I’d hoped, it’s still a learning experience so it’s a valuable moment. I have felt joy and I’ve shed some tears, but I’m so proud that I’ve tried, and I’m not done! I’m just getting started!!
Sister Shrub – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Raw Apple Cider Vinegar with the Mother is loaded with healthy enzymes and good bacteria that is great for gut health, immunities, heart health, digestion and metabolism to name a few. What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Anytime someone says, “wow, this is really good”, I feel very proud! I’m proud of getting past the fear of taking that first step. that’s probably the biggest hurdle. There have been many proud moments and I hope there are more to come!! If you’ve got something that’s worth pursuing, go for it!
