Today we’d like to introduce you to Mary Reaston.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Yoga Your Way was founded with the mission of making health and wellness accessible to everyone, regardless of age, fitness level, or physical limitations. The company was originally started by a group of women who shared a passion for movement, healing, and community, and who believed wellness should never feel intimidating or exclusive.
One of our founding partners, Anne Finch, played a major role in shaping that vision. After overcoming several physical disabilities through movement and yoga, Anne experienced firsthand the powerful connection between physical and mental healing. Her journey became one of the inspirations behind Yoga Your Way’s inclusive philosophy and commitment to helping others discover wellness in a supportive and welcoming environment.
What began during the pandemic as an online wellness platform quickly evolved into one of North County San Diego’s most engaging outdoor wellness communities. As people searched for connection, movement, and healing during a difficult time, we found that bringing wellness outdoors — especially near the water — created a truly unique and transformative experience.
Today, Yoga Your Way is led by partners Mary Reaston, Anne Finch, and Nick Capobianco. Together, we have expanded beyond traditional yoga classes to offer a wide variety of wellness experiences including beach yoga, Pilates, barre, acro yoga, sound healing, strength training, and stand-up paddleboard yoga.
What makes Yoga Your Way unique is our belief that nature itself is part of the healing process. Practicing outdoors, particularly on the beach, allows people to reconnect with themselves while enjoying the calming energy of the ocean, the grounding sensation of the sand, and the mental clarity that comes from movement in nature.
Our goal has always been bigger than fitness. We strive to create a community-centered wellness experience where people feel supported physically, mentally, and emotionally — and where everyone feels welcome.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but we believe those challenges helped shape Yoga Your Way into what it is today. We originally launched as an online wellness platform during COVID, but as things evolved, we realized our true passion was creating outdoor wellness experiences where people could reconnect with themselves, nature, and community. That led us to pivot toward beach yoga, Pilates, and outdoor wellness classes.
One of the biggest challenges was finding the right people who truly shared our vision and passion for creating an inclusive wellness community. Building a business is one thing, but building the right team and culture is another. Today, we feel incredibly grateful for the team we have built. Our partners Mary Reaston, Anne Finch, and Nick Capobianco, along with our amazing instructors Elise, Kim, and Neda, have created a true partnership experience rooted in support, positivity, and community.
Another challenge was simply starting from scratch in a very competitive wellness market, especially after the pandemic when many fitness and yoga businesses were trying to rebuild and reestablish themselves. We had no existing beach yoga or Pilates program — we built it class by class, client by client, and weekend by weekend.
Over time, through consistency, passion, and community support, Yoga Your Way has grown into one of North County’s unique outdoor wellness experiences. We now offer beach classes every weekend in Carlsbad at Frazee Beach and Tamarack Beach, along with specialty workshops, private events, team-building experiences, wellness retreats, and partnerships with hotels and wellness companies.
Looking back, the challenges taught us resilience and reinforced the importance of staying authentic to our mission — creating accessible wellness experiences that help people strengthen both body and mind in a welcoming outdoor environment.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
What makes Yoga Your Way special is that we’ve built the company completely from the ground up while staying true to our mission, our integrity, and our community-centered approach to wellness. From the beginning, we believed health and wellness should be accessible, welcoming, and inclusive for everyone, regardless of age, fitness level, or experience. That philosophy continues to guide every class, event, and partnership we create.
Yoga Your Way specializes in outdoor wellness experiences, particularly beach yoga, Pilates, barre, sound healing, acro yoga, strength training, and stand-up paddleboard yoga. We are especially known for our beach classes in Carlsbad at Tamarack Beach and Frazee Beach, where practitioners can enjoy movement surrounded by the healing energy of the ocean, the grounding sensation of the sand, and the calming sound of the waves.
What truly sets us apart is the experience itself. We don’t just offer fitness classes — we create an environment where people can disconnect from stress, reconnect with nature, and strengthen both body and mind. Practicing on the sand naturally challenges balance and stabilizing muscles while creating a calming and restorative atmosphere that people simply can’t find in a traditional indoor studio.
We are also incredibly proud of the community we’ve built. Over the years, we’ve hosted community wellness events, military appreciation classes, charity events, and “bring a friend for free” experiences because we want people to experience firsthand how transformative outdoor wellness can be. Some of our classes started with no attendees at all, and through consistency, passion, and community support, we’ve grown into one of North County San Diego’s most recognized outdoor wellness communities with many classes now regularly full.
Another thing we are proud of is our commitment to making every class approachable and adaptable. Our instructors are experienced in offering modifications and personalized guidance so practitioners of all levels feel comfortable and successful. Whether someone is brand new to yoga or Pilates or an experienced practitioner, we want every person to leave feeling stronger, more balanced, and more connected.
As our brand has grown, we’ve also been honored to partner with hotels, wellness companies, private groups, and corporate organizations to bring customized wellness experiences to a broader audience through private events, team-building experiences, retreats, and specialty classes.
Above all, we want readers to know that Yoga Your Way is more than a fitness company — it’s a wellness community built around connection, inclusivity, movement, nature, and the belief that wellness should truly be for everyone.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
We are all still striving to learn, grow, and evolve both personally and professionally. In the wellness industry, education never really stops. We continually update our training, expand our knowledge, and deepen our own personal practices because we believe the best teachers are lifelong students themselves.
While there are many wonderful books, podcasts, apps, and online resources available today, we also believe there is no substitute for real-life experience, mentorship, and authentic connection within the wellness community. That belief has actually inspired us to begin developing a mentorship program for teachers who are newer to the industry, especially those who completed much of their education online during and after the pandemic.
Online education created incredible accessibility, but we also feel there is tremendous value in hands-on learning, practical teaching experience, and learning how to truly connect with students in a live environment. Wellness is not just about learning poses or techniques — it’s about understanding how to guide, support, and inspire people both physically and mentally.
One of the philosophies we emphasize at Yoga Your Way is that wellness is practiced both on and off the mat. The principles of mindfulness, balance, compassion, resilience, and self-care extend far beyond class itself and become part of everyday life. That mindset continues to guide not only our personal journeys, but also the type of community and teaching environment we hope to create for future instructors and practitioners.
