Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Kazden.
Hi Matt, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My fascination with wildlife and nature was shaped early in life through a lot of time outdoors, roadtrips with family, and exploring state and national parks. These experiences instilled in me a lasting sense of curiosity, respect, and responsibility toward wildlife and the environment. As I got more interested in photography, I combined the two passions.
Ultimately, my goal is to use wildlife photography as a bridge between admiration and action. By building empathy towards wildlife through my photos, I hope to encourage greater awareness of the challenges wildlife faces and to inspire support for meaningful environmental protections. Strong and effective policy, legislation, and enforcement are essential to preserving these species and their habitats, and my work seeks to contribute to that conversation by reminding us what is at stake and why it matters.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
While the journey has been relatively smooth, one challenge was figuring out how to take my passion for wildlife conservation and educate others on its importance. Through this process, I learned a great deal about conservation efforts and public outreach, which ultimately led to me starting an Instagram page dedicated to showcasing the beauty of wildlife and highlighting the importance of its protection.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Building on a lifelong passion for nature and wildlife, my work focuses on capturing the emotion and individuality of the animals that I photograph. Whether it’s sea lions along the Southern California coast or monkeys deep in the jungles of Central America, I’m always drawn to those unguarded moments where personality shines through. Capturing raw expression, genuine emotion, and—of course—the cuteness is a constant theme in my work, no matter the species or setting.
San Diego offers an incredible landscape for wildlife photography, from coastal ecosystems to the entirely different world just beneath the ocean surface, where underwater life adds yet another layer of wonder and inspiration to my work.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
The best way people can support the work I do is by helping spread awareness about the importance and necessity of wildlife conservation. This can mean getting involved with local organizations, but it can also be as simple as talking with friends and family about why stronger wildlife and conservation protections are necessary and how to get involved. On my instagram, amazingwildlife__m, I also explore simple ways that you can help wildlife.
