Meet Maya Kabakibi of Buncha Blossoms

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maya Kabakibi.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Back in September 2017, I had the opportunity to join WIT (Whatever It Takes), an entrepreneurial program that helps teens launch their own businesses. I was hesitant at first to join because I have always been more on the shy side, but knew that I had a creative and innovative side to me. Being apart of this program meant that I had to put myself out there and get out of my comfort zone, but I was up for the challenge.

6 months later, I have created an enterprise, met many inspiring people who gave me positive feedback and have attended one of the largest wedding expos in San Diego. I have learned to approach every situation with more confidence and to not get discouraged when there are setbacks. What matters most is your drive to get back up, because opportunities will arise when you least expect it.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
One of the biggest challenges that I have faced throughout this process was realizing that not everyone will support your idea, and that is okay. I also had to face my fear of rejection, when asking for donations.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Buncha Blossoms – what should we know?
I have created an enterprise called Buncha Blossoms. Our mission is to collect flowers donated from local florists and weddings, repurpose them into small bouquets and baskets, and deliver them to people at local health care facilities (hospices, senior centers, nursing homes…) that are forgotten and might not receive flowers that would brighten their day. My business is unique because we repurpose the flowers, and at the same time making someone’s day.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I would like to give credit to a couple people who helped me along the way. First, I would like to thank Sarah Hernholm, founder of WIT (Whatever It Takes), for being confident in me, and teaching me to not be afraid to put myself out there to accomplish great things. Also, I would like to thank my mom for being my number one supporter, and always teaching me to step into my greatness. She has made me into the confident and caring person I am today.
