Meet Meagan Crowell of Babe Gone Blonde

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meagan Crowell.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My Passion started when I was 16… I remember the way I felt after getting my hair done and I wanted to give others that same confidence I felt.. I truly believe when you look good, you feel good! I jumped into my career at the age of 19 and studied alongside top mentors while learning my craft.

At the age of 21, I got asked to be an educator at the Aveda Institute and was honored to educate other future hairstylists, but I was ready to open my own salon… so I did, in Dallas, TX at the age of 23 and receiving Best in D Magazine. I then met my husband and have been in San Diego now for five years.

I understood that it would be quite a challenge at first in San Diego. Growing a clientele from scratch required me to dig into my inner boss babe self and do everything possible to make sure that my technical skills, as well as business practices, were on point. Not only have I been able to successfully build a fantastic clientele that I love, but I also get to educate stylist on how to build a successful business as well!

Each year I spend I sizeable chunk of time and money educating myself on the latest trends and techniques to bring to my clients behind the chair and researching “what’s next.” Once I was doing hair behind the chair, I realized that one of the things that made my craft unique was that I was able to educate my clients on these why’s and how’s and it all started by having a thorough consultation.

My clients can always expect to feel a deeper connection and perspective of their unique hair experience within that first 20 minutes. The education doesn’t stop there, though! I teach my clients on how to maintain and style their new looks at home, so they feel like they’re stepping out of the salon every day, but in a way that I know will work into their lifestyle and schedule.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I don’t think being a business owner is ever a smooth road; however, if you have passion for what you are doing it is 100% worth it!

I struggled back in 2008 when my brother passed away, and I dropped out of college. My business was not a business at this point; however, because I dropped out, it has caused me to learn the business side of things on my own which has been an incredible rollercoaster.

I also struggled when I had my kids. From high-risk pregnancy to going on maternity leave to not finding daycare and being on waiting lists. Luckily, these struggles are just mild bumps in the road to get me to where I really needed to be. I now raise my beautiful babies while building an incredible business.

Babe Gone Blonde – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Babe Gone Blonde is a hair salon in San Diego with Elite Dimensional Color and Blonding Expert offering the best in luxury color and techniques from baby lights, balayage, foilayage, and more for the modern chic “it” girl who radiates style, excitement, and effortless beauty.

I want your experience to break the mold of what you’ve seen or heard before, and open your eyes to the next generation of hair health, hair care, and color palettes. Think of your hair like a garden.

Every flower, vegetable, fruit, etc. has very specific needs that need to be met to ensure they can grow to their fullest potential. Your hair is so unique from the person next to you, and it’s my job to not only let it glow it’s brightest but to make sure we keep it that way.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success for me is turning my passions into profits while helping women achieve results and being able to provide an incredible life for my family while actually being there for my kids as they grow up.

A huge marker for me will be when BGB brand is known in San Diego. We will have our own salon overlooking the water while creating our own online branding business for other hairstylists to utilize and grow from (something I wish I had when I originally started my career as a hairstylist).

Babe Gone Blonde will be the salon that every modern chic “it” girl wants to go to because she knows we specialize and more importantly understand dimensional color and blonding.
