Meet Meagan Stone of Elyse Jay Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meagan Stone.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have always loved photography, and when I found out that I was pregnant with my daughter, I knew that I wanted good quality photos

My photos weren’t great, but I knew I could get better with practice. Once I started posting the photos that I had taken of my daughter, people I knew started asking me to take photos of their families.

Before I knew it I had somehow fell into a job I love so much. It didn’t take long before someone I knew asked me to photograph a wedding and even though I was crazy nervous, I said yes. I absolutely love the people I get to meet being and i am able to provide quality photos that people can look back on.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Smooth, well let’s just say I still have moments where I feel like I am on a roller coaster, But that is what makes it exciting. With every challenge, I learn more about myself and the art of photography. I have been lucky to have met some amazing people along the way who have made everything so wonderful.

Elyse Jay Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I would like to think that I am a photographer that also feels like your friend by the end of your session or event day. I want my clients to feel comfortable with me. Being in front of a camera is not always the most comfortable place to be.

My job is to provide an image of a time in your life that you want to be able to remember like it was yesterday. I want my photo to take you back to that place you were when it was taken — your engagement session, how you felt when you walked down the aisle, holding your newborn baby. Even when I am doing a family session, I want to capture your real emotion with your family, playing with your children so you can remember what that looked like.

Life moves so fast, and those photos will forever hold that moment to look back on. The one thing I want to make sure I do is to stay affordable. Yes, I am running a business, but I try to work with my clients so that they are able to get the photos that they want. When I first started taking photos, it was because I knew how important they were to me and I wasn’t going to be able to afford always paying someone for them.

I remind myself of that, not everyone’s budget is the same. I think that would be where I am set apart. It’s about being able to give people the gift of that memory that means the world to me

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
To me, success is having a great reputation as a business owner. Its important to me to always provide the best service that I can. My business is 95% referral based and if I can make sure that my clients are happy with my work, to me I am doing something right.

I am forever going to be educating myself and there is always room for improvement. I am true to my word, and I will work hard for anyone who hires me. As long as I walk away knowing I did the best I could after every job is over, I would call that success, even in the smallest occasion.
