Today we’d like to introduce you to Meg Flanagan.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Meg. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
MilKids Ed started in 2010 as a tutoring service focused on children with special education needs and military families. Many children have gaps in learning due to frequent moves or low retention. My targeted tutoring service helped many children close those gaps.
In 2015, MilKids Ed transitioned to an education blog. I share easy tips and tricks online to help all families, especially busy parents on the go, make their K-12 journey as simple as possible.
MilKids Ed added advocacy services in fall 2017! Now, families can receive personalized advice specific to their own situation and needs. Having these services remain primarily virtual allows for flexibility and easier communication.
All of this was born out of a desire to make a positive impact on the military community and help busy parents find a better way to school success. Education and teaching is my passion, both personally and professionally! I love to see children and families succeed and feel confident in school!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Being a military family, moving around the country and now the world is a major challenge. We are constantly on the go, and I understand how hard it can be to find solutions that work.
However, this challenge really turned into a blessing since it shaped how I run MilKids Ed!
MilKids Ed – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
MilKids Ed specializes in finding school solutions for busy families around the world. Whether you are struggling to understand school jargon or feel overwhelmed with your child’s IEP, MilKids Ed can help! I am most well-known for my school communication strategies that walk the fine line between fierce advocacy and supportive team building. Parents have been able to create supportive parent-teacher teams easily after using the Talk to the Teacher guidelines.
With my background in special and elementary education, I understand how the system works. As a parent, I understand the deep need to be there for your child 100%. And being a military family, I am living life on the go, with all the challenges and changes that come with it.
I hold an M. Ed in special education and a BS in elementary education. Having moved into and out of several states, with professional teaching licenses in three states/school systems, I am able to speak to a wide variety of situations and best practices.
What sets me apart from other education advocates and education blogs is the multi-faceted nature of what I do. I don’t just handle special education or gifted education or communication. I do it all! And I work with clients in the comfort of their own home, on the road, or wherever life has taken them. Solutions are delivered quickly. Parents can rest assured that anything presented to them has been well-researched and vetted.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define success by doing what you are passionate about and doing it well. Making an impact on just one person is a success!

What a wonderful thing you are doing. There is a huge advantage in having parents tune into and be available for there children. Our country is changing rapidly and through your efforts children’s education will not have a gap.
Meg I Love what your doing and read your blogs.
