Meet Megan Creed of Gravity Events

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Creed.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Whenever I am asked this question I always think back to my high school ASB days. I was the Vice President during my senior year and I had the opportunity to plan our Airband event from start to finish. Needless to say, I was completely hooked. I am a detail-oriented, organized, creative type of person so it hit all my areas of interest. Soon after I finished planning that event, I applied to an internship position with a local wedding planner.

To my surprise, I was offered the position! To this day I still remember receiving that email and running to my ASB advisor with so much excitement and she was just as excited as I was. I had the opportunity to work on a few weddings with that company and it solidified my desire to pursue a job in the industry. During my first couple years of college, I primarily worked in retail along with a local florist on the side so I still had some sort of connection with weddings and events. About one month after my 21st birthday, I was scrolling through Craigslist and happened upon a wedding assistant position at a wedding venue. I applied for fun, not thinking anything would come from it.

Again, to my surprise, I was offered the position and started full force into working 50+ weddings per year. I am currently in my 5th wedding season at the venue so I have had the privilege of coordinating over 250 weddings. At the beginning of 2019, I was playing with the idea of going out on my own and starting my own company. After weighing my options and many conversations with my boyfriend, family, and friends, I decided to take the leap and go for it! I am currently in my final semester in college and I will be attending LVL Academy in November, so after I graduate in December, Gravity Events will officially be open for business! I love the wedding industry and the opportunity it provides me with to meet so many incredible people. I am very much looking forward to starting this new venture.

Has it been a smooth road?
I will say there are good and bad days, but the good days largely outweigh the bad. I have been extremely lucky with the opportunities that have been presented to me and I don’t take that for granted. I know plenty of people who have faced several obstacles and challenges, but for my personal experience I have been very fortunate to not have very many of those experiences. Since my company won’t officially launch until the end of the year, I imagine my answer will change after my first year of business.

Alright – so let’s talk business. What else should we know about your work?
I am launching a full-service wedding and event planning company. For weddings I offer full-service planning, partial planning, and coordination. I also offer planning and consulting services for corporate and other types of events. Since I haven’t officially launched, I don’t have anything specific to be most proud of quite yet, besides starting my own business of course.

I have a lot of prior experience in weddings and events so I bring a lot of knowledge to the table. One thing that sets me apart from others is my desire to make connections with everyone I come in contact with. I don’t want to just be your wedding or event planner, I want to be your friend and get to know you on a personal level. I truly believe that helps make the day of the event and the overall experience that much better!

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Absolutely! San Diego has a large wedding and event market. The downside to this is just that – it is large so it is also very saturated. Many people may be doing the same thing you are doing so it becomes tough to set your company apart from others. If you have the experience and drive, then I say go for it! Your passion and love for what you do will attract the right people.
