Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Eskey.
Megan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
In 2018, I launched my internet startup, Reloquence, to provide influencer marketing and paid advertising to clients who wanted to up their social game.
In 2019, I targeted my startup to real estate exclusively, and went back to school to get my California real estate license.
In early 2020, Coldwell Banker rebranded from National Real Estate Referral Group to the Coldwell Banker Realty Referral Network (CBRRN). They moved towards an online model for referral submissions, and allowed the referral associates to launch websites and reach out to potential leads via web, SMS, social media, drip email, and blogs, as well as the more traditional non-digital approaches such as flyers and postcards.
Reloquence joined CBRRN after I got my license in July 2020. We launched our website in August 2020, and sent out the announcements in early September.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth road, both from the business model and target market perspective. It took me quite some time to find a market where there was sufficient demand for my product to warrant the cost of customer acquisition.
When I eventually identified real estate as my target market, I discovered that there was a high demand for qualified leads by licensed agents, much more so than paid advertising and influencer marketing services.
As such, I shifted towards a model of highlighting 3rd party vendors and services that would appeal to buyers, sellers and investors, rather than realtors, such as creative videographers, interior designers, and mortgage loan brokers.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
My business is a global real estate referral business. We can refer clients to Coldwell Banker’s international network of realtors for any type of transaction including commercial, residential and land sales. Although I have a California real estate license, I am not limited to California.
Reloquence can provide referral services for clients who buy and sell across multiple states, and is very well suited to complex transactions such as 1031 exchanges and other tax deferred deals. In addition, we can recommend preferred vendors to help our clients showcase their properties for quick sales at the best prices.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I have a stellar advisory board that includes the CEO of one of the top lead generation companies in San Diego. I launched from Founder Institute San Diego, a tech accelerator that provided me with the structure and foundation to launch an internet-based company that was scalable and investible.
Along the way, I have learned a lot from other local founders in San Diego, through forums such as Startup San Diego and Tech Coffee SD.
