Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Parker.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Growing up art had always been a part of my life. I took art classes throughout school and attended Pacific Northwest College of Art. I would have described my art as graffiti and graphic novel styling. When I suffered a family tragedy, I threw myself into my art as a way to help cope. Art has always helped to lift my spirits.
Please tell us about your art.
I love drawing, painting, and tattooing. When I started my apprenticeship at Genuine Electric Tattoo, I had to forget everything I had learned about art previously. The designs I make for tattooing need to last the test of time. When I create a design, I keep in mind how skin will age and change as the years go on. My hope is for my clients to get a tattoo that they will love forever.
What do you think is the biggest challenge facing artists today?
I think one of the biggest challenges, especially as a traditional tattoo artist, is coming up with fresh new designs. We have a tradition to uphold, designs that need to last for an entire lifetime, while still thinking of designs that have not been done before or reinventing classic designs that have been done for the last hundred years. Another challenge I think artists face is not being taken seriously. I tattoo full time. It is my job. I take my clients time seriously, and I hope they take my time seriously as well.
