Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Rivera
Hi Megan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Growing up, I was very interested in all things art; I spent all of my free time drawing, painting, creating, etc. As I grew up, I knew I wanted to do something that incorporated art into my career, my hairstylist at the time was so inspiring to me, she was also an artist and she looked like she loved what she did and that inspired me to get into hair. Using hair as a canvas and creating beautiful transformations on people really fulfilled the artist in me.
I took my career from Los Angeles to San Diego and began working at a salon downtown San Diego where I perfected my craft specializing in blonding transformations and extensions, as my business grew I moved it to Mission Valley where I opened The Diosa Salon, a place where it is all about uplifting women and helping them feel like their most beautiful, authentic selves. I strived to create a space where not only the clients, but the employees love coming to work, where the energy is always positive and I can successfully say that I’ve done that, I love my space and all the people in it.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing worth having comes easy. I learned a lot on my journey through trial and error. But I do fully believe that the struggle makes us stronger, and we can take every situation and learn from it.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a lived-in blonding and extension specialist. I’m known for my big blonding transformations as well as my sew-in hair extensions.
I’m proud of my growth, I started at the front desk at a salon and worked my way up from that to assistant, commission stylist, booth renter stylist then owning my own salon all within my first two years as a stylist.
I believe my growth is directly related to my love for people; at the end of the day, connecting with people and really listening to peoples wants and needs ultimately helped me grow in business; you won’t sit in my chair and feel there is any miscommunication on what the goal is, that and by the end of your appointment guaranteed we’re going to be good friends.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Find someone that you really look up to! Not only in business but as a person as well, make sure they embody everything that you want to be. I’m very thankful for my mentors that I had in the beginning, and it is so important for me to be a great mentor myself; again my love and care for people will always come first, this career changed my life in so many amazing ways and I love helping others on their journey as well.
If I could give any advice to a new stylist starting out, it would be to assist a stylist you want to be just like, dive in and work hard, and before you know it, you will be them and more.
